Cover your kid in cayenne pepper. When that other rascal bites their mouth will light up with burning pain!

Some daycares have policies to deal with repeat offenders. Friends kids went to one where if after normal behavioral processes were followed at daycare the child was still overly aggressive with biting or whatever, the kid was kicked out. Parents were responsible.

The daycare our son went to was this way. Had a similar situation as the OP and the biter was asked to leave the school. The lady that ran the daycare said that a lot of times the change helped curb the biting. She had several instances of supposed biters coming in that she never had a problem with and several that left her school and didn't repeat at their new place. Maybe its because they are watched closer since they have rep for it coming in?

As the alpha, it is your duty to defend your pack from outside dangers. Go beat the shite out of the girl's dad.

my son is one year's old and he has been the recipient of a few bites at day care as well as bitten a few himself. It seems to have subsided a bit now that he is not teething as much. He bit the shite out of me one night and I took the old school method and bit him back, not enough to break the skin but enough to know that he needed to cut that shite out. I do not believe we have had a biting report come home from daycare in about a month so that is good. It is a fact of life of toddlers that they are going to bite. This is our first child and my wife was freaking out the first time he got bit as well, but it just comes with the territory and kids are trying to assert dominance (just like a litter of puppies).

The ER? Seriously, did y'all think his life was in danger? It's called hydrogen peroxide and a fricking bandaid.

#1- The human mouth is one of the most filthy, disgusting creations of nature. It is riddled with all kinds of bacteria. If I was bitten by a person so hard that it broke the skin, I'm going to a doctor to get that shite checked out after some basic care at home.

#2- It's called documentation. Let's say that little biting bitch comes after your child again and does more damage next time, Tyson's the poor kid or takes a chunk out of a nose, there needs to be documented proof that this was a recurring problem.

There is a bitter at our daycare in the same age range, he has bitten a ton of the kids, multiple times. They say after the 3rd time they tell the parents and keep him home for a couple of days or something, nothing they can really do about it.

It happens. Some daycares it happens more than others. We've been to three different ones and my son has been bitten or scratched at all three. The first couple of times he was bit first. After that he started to retaliate.

It was bad enough that we had to take him to ER because the skin broke where he got bit.

It's our first kid man, so we don't know what the protocol is with daycares or what the right expectations are. Take it easy.

People wonder why they have trouble getting in to see their doctor, why E.R. waits are extensive, or why insurance costs are continually going up.

Look no further for any of those answers than this guy.

Just wondering, what are the roles and responsibilities of the people running the daycare and the parents of the biting toddler?

Then go to your normal doctor the next day. Schedule an appointment. It's not an EMERGENCY.

The daycare should talk to the parents. Two of my 3 bit other kids, and all of them got bitten by other kids at some point. At our daycare they talked to us when enrolling and explained the policy about getting kicked out if your kid bites.

If you signed the waiver, when your kid bit they would make them bite a lemon. Only took once for my daughter to never bite again. My son however liked lemons and it didn't faze him, so I mixed up some vinegar and bitters in a spray bottle, and that got him to stop.

Yeah, that's fine. Or go to the urgent care place down the street. That's the type of shite that they are there to deal with. I was mainly addressing the "rub some dirt on it" people. A lot of superficial cuts and stuff that people go to the doctor for is a little overboard, but I would always be cautious with a bite.

The doctor said take him to ER just to make sure that the area is cleaned thorough and there is no possibility of an infection because of all the bacteria that is in a mouth that could have transferred to the wound.

Get a new doctor. I guarantee yours is fricking you hard when he bills you

This has always been my understanding at better places. Take your EXTREMELY pro rated refund and your little animal and GTFO. Their is a line of kids waiting to get into better places, who don't bite.

Of course I am in Katy. Can't throw a rock without hitting a high end daycare out here.

But a repeat offender and a bitten FACE? I can't see how they don't expel that kid. A daycare can't do the things or have the resources to handle that kid. That kid needs a consequence (20 months is tough to get one to register consequence) and to be isolated while properly observed. That's a lot to ask a daycare. And then let the biters parents know their little animal was kept separate?
