How come you never see elderly gay men?

Quick- conjure up an image of a gay guy. I'll bet you envisioned some pierced millennial with a lisp and gelled hair who's just fabulous.
But have you ever noticed you don't see elderly gay men through television/movies or in real life?
If the gay population truly is around 5% (estimates range between 4-10%), that's 16.5M gays in the United States. Reduce this by half to eliminate lesbians, and you're left with 8.25M gay men.
The average age of the American male is 37 years old, meaning that there are more than 4M gay men over the age of 37 and likely 2M over the age of 55. If this is the case, why is every gay man in the movies or at a protest rally or being flamboyant on the streets of San Francisco in their 20s/30s?
Presumably, there are gays playing bingo in nursing homes or feeding the pigeons in a park or staring dumbfounded at the debit card machine at Albertson's but neither Hollywood or anyone else sees it this way.

cause they were gay before it was cool to be gay and they didn't talk about it then...and don't now...backing up the point that what you do in your bedroom should stay in your bedroom.

The few I know aren't flamboyant attention seekers.

They're likely either closeted or keep their sexual preferences to themselves.
Older people typically faced ridicule, persecution, and/or physical violence for being gay as they were growing up.

There are plenty in Atlanta. In fact, that barber shop I go to is fully staffed of older gay men and a couple of black women. They know how to cut some hair.

It's just now becoming acceptable in American society. Most of them are so used to hiding it they've lost their flamboyant fabulousness in their old age.

Come hang out with me. I can point out at least 10 in one hour.

You're not hanging out at the right rest areas.
