Went checkout Local Appliance store in houma(Rods Appliances), and he was telling me I should go with a 3000$ hood. Do I really need a commercial grade hood? What are y'all thoughts on hood???

Did he offer a reach around? Hell, for that kind of money, you could have one custom made out of gold.

Maybe hire a professional HVAC guy to properly size and sell you a hood instead of taking the advice of a counter donkey that just wants to sell you the most expensive hood he can get you to bite on?

You don't need a mechanical engineer, but you do need someone who can properly select a hood based on the particulars of your home.

Otherwise, you can end up with all kinds of annoying to serious problems.

That's what I'm saying. No reach around or Vaseline. I guess why he had no other customers

No you can get really nice over the island vents online for really great prices. You do want to check the CFM on each model. The higher the CFM the more air it moves out. You also want to check the dB rating on each. This will tell you how loud it is at high fan. Ideally you want the one that has the most cfm for the least dB.

Check places like Amazon, Lowes, and just Google shopping, check reviews and check those numbers of models and find one that fits you. For an exceptionally nice one you should pay half that or less than half of the $3000 quoted.

call Drye supply in Jefferson, La and see if they have any in stock. They usually have the best prices for new. Marchand has nice ones but they go up in price quickly.
Ideal may have some too and they have a location in Baton Rouge.
Best Buy is a place I do refer people to because they are probably the best showroom of higher end appliances and they offer easy to get credit.

To be honest though, buying online is always your best option. You don't pay sales tax upfront you pay it during tax season (wink, wink) you get the best prices and you see the specs in front of you and side by side. The negative is you don't have the unit in front of you tactily.

Lowes also gets high end appliances and may even have a good $1000 Island hood vent.

You can probably find the same hood on-line for 1/3rd the price.

Most companies contract out for warranty repair. So say you get a Marvel or Wolf Hood. They aren't likely to send a company man to come out there to service them, they will contract the job out. Hoods though are the simplest of all appliances. You have a control, lights and a fan. Lights go out, you change them. Unit goes out and a fan or part of the control has to be changed then you call the company and they send a guy (while in warranty). They rarely fail, and if they do it will likely be out of warranty.

You are going with the Manufacturer's warranties more so than the place you got it from, so if that's important to you I would look into the warranties online.
Do you have a whole home appliance warranty? That covers the hood.

Even without a warranty repairs are never really expensive on the hood vents, unless you get one of those motorized downdraft vents.

Check out Vent-A-Hood.

Disclaimer: it will be expensive, but they work and are quiet.

Also, good job getting a hood and not a downdraft aka horizontal grease fan

I bought a $650 vent on Amazon for my island, but it's not installed yet. Hopefully it works well, if not I'll eventually have an outdoor kitchen for stuff I don't want to do indoors. Be aware that if you go with a high cfm unit (like a 1000+) you have to look into make up air systems which can get expensive. If you don't, the vacuum created by the vent can pull undesirable air into the living space.
