having battled it myself, and watching family and friends battle it my entire life, not sure you have a good grasp on it. Sure, it's not a viral infection or disease like most would think, but it is most certainly a sickness that takes over, with hosts being very out of control of the mental instability that comes with it. Certainly can be labeled a disease, and a very scary one.

Would you say the same thing about someone in the hood addicted to crack?

For those struggling with addiction, depression, anxiety, etc. I recommend this book:

It's really a game changer if you practice it. It teaches you to think in the present, and how all of your emotions that control you are symptoms of thinking in the past/future. You get in the habit of viewing your emotions of the brain, caused by thoughts, as an outside observer. It sounds so simple, but just think how much time you spend dwelling on the past/future, and how it only brings anxiety/fear most of the time, or worse you live your life ignoring now and thinking a future event will change your unhappiness.

Yet nobody wants to get real about how pot opens the door to heroine about 99% of the time. But let's legalize it and let our kids smoke it up..then when that high just ain't cutting it the loser druggie she is inevitably hanging out with knows a guy who knows a guy who can score smack. Get real.

I disagree. Do you consider alcohol a gateway to heroin?

I can see kids saying well I smoke pot and it's illegal and nothing bad happens to me but the munchies so I guess heroin is just as harmless. Kids need to know the difference pot and hard drugs.

well millions of kids/people smoke pot every day, try it for the first time, and never move on to anything else. I can assure you, if pot didn't exist, the people that end up on hard drugs would still end up there. It is something mental that pushes them to want to do more and more, to cover up whatever pain is affecting them. Doesn't have to do with the high of weed not being good enough. The high of anything isn't good enough for people that end up doing heroine and the like, which is why you see ODs. These people have demons that need facing, but instead of finding a healthy way to do that, i.e. counseling, therapy, whatever, they self-medicate to the point that they can't feel those bad feelings anymore

The fact that 99% of people who have used heroin have used pot is laughable. I wonder what that number is for alcohol. Or tobacco.

Nobody has ever smoked weed and suddenly had an urge to shoot up herion. Nobody.

This song sums it up. I live in reality. Not fantasy land.

quote:

People Who Died
Teddy sniffing glue he was 12 years old
Fell from the roof on East Two-nine
Cathy was 11 when she pulled the plug
On 26 reds and a bottle of wine
Bobby got leukemia, 14 years old
He looked like 65 when he died
He was a friend of mine

(Chorus:)
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
They were all my friends, and they died

G-berg and Georgie let their gimmicks go rotten
So they died of hepatitis in upper Manhattan
Sly in Vietnam took a bullet in the head
Bobby OD'd on Drano on the night that he was wed
They were two more friends of mine
Two more friends that died / I miss 'em--they died

(Chorus)

Mary took a dry dive from a hotel room
Bobby hung himself from a cell in the tombs
Judy jumped in front of a subway train
Eddie got slit in the jugular vein
And Eddie, I miss you more than all the others,
And I salute you brother/ This song is for you my brother

(Chorus)

Herbie pushed Tony from the Boys' Club roof
Tony thought that his rage was just some goof
But Herbie sure gave Tony some b**chen proof
"Hey," Herbie said, "Tony, can you fly?"
But Tony couldn't fly . . . Tony died

(Chorus)

Brian got busted on a narco rap
He beat the rap by rattin' on some bikers
He said, hey, I know it's dangerous,
but it sure beats Riker's
But the next day he got offed
by the very same bikers

you live in reality, so you quote a song, and we're supposed to buy the bullshite you're spitting? You obviously have no REAL life experience dealing with any of this terrible shite. Go smoke a bowl BUT WATCH OUT, you'll probably have a needle in your arm and a dick in your mouth in no time!!

Actually, if this country had embraced marijuana from the beginning we may very well not have the opiate problem to the degree we have today.
