No kids/single guy. Also have an inside dog that would alert me if anyone was remotely close to coming in.

I keep a loaded 12 gauge in the top shelf of my closet, and I will continue to do so until my kids are old enough to potentially get at it. I'll probably buy a safe at that point.
I'm a fairly good shot but if I have to shoot an intruder at 3 AM in the dark I want my aim to be as little a factor as possible.

For now, have a Berreta 96 A1 with a laser/light combo on the bottom rail and two spare clips. When I come across a G35 series Glock, that will be my primary choice. If there is a need for some more fire power, the primary weapon will safely get me to my locked up DP12. Look it up...haha and that's just getting warmed up. :-)
