The poster is probably just taking a guess since they fled the scene and risked getting caught by returning to gather possible evidence that could be used against them.
I've heard of people fleeing the scene and then calling the police the next day (after they have sobered up, of course) and reporting their vehicle as stolen to try making it look like someone else did it.

This almost exact thing happened to me on Burbank in 2010
Drunk guy cuts across Burbank and I T-bone his little car. Once I kinda gathered myself I saw him running away into a subdivision. I was freaking out thinking he had no insurance
Cops came, found a daiquiri in his car, and thankfully the registration and insurance.
Well t-boy went to one of the houses and asked someone to bring him home because he was too drunk to drive. The resident brought him back without knowing about the accident.
When he got to the guys house he told him what had happened. When the patron headed back home he stopped at the scene, told the cops and they took off and arrested him at his home
Hit and Run. Drunk Driving.

Sounds like there's injuries involved. Great bodily injury to be correct. This is a felony case. The person who ran away is royally fricked!!! He or she will be sued for 100's of thousands and will be locked up. Sucks to be the a-hole who ran away.
