Oil, gas leaking from abandoned Hilcorp wellhead: Coast Guard

The U.S. Coast Guard is responding to natural gas and crude oil leaking from an abandoned wellhead owned by Hilcorp Energy near mile marker 10 on the lower Mississippi River, just southwest of Venice, officials reported late Tuesday (March 21).

Spill prior to this one in 2016: Coast Guard reports 4,200-gallon crude oil spill in Barataria Bay

Same company found "Prop Washing" our marsh with their Tug boats in 2016

The EPA, as it is currently, is way overboard and highly inefficient. But there's a place for such an agency, just not in its current form.

Small spills are inevitable. They just seem to have more. Probably caused by not spending money to cap off wells properly.

The prop washing is what pisses me off. That is a deliberate action that destroyed the marsh. After reading that article, they have been and will continue to do it. The feds haven't even charged them with anything or even fined them at the least.

Need to get a good ol baw out there and steal their boats

Surprisingly enough, this is actually not the case. They actually do a decent job spending the $ to take care of their older wells. More than likely, the issue arises from their process (i.e. CO2 injection). Gets tricky with those older wells.

Hillcorp seems to have a pretty shitty track record. Too bad LA too poor to take any action.

Was on the phone with a guy in Oil this morning. He stated the opposite. Also, is a "decent" job good enough?

PT board says this is the cost of doing business and any damage done is inconsequential. Can't argue with such strong logic...

Well that's not helpful.... "sauces"

I don't think you understand the complexities involved with a well/well bore that is 50+ years old. Add the possible introduction of CO2 and you have the potential for a mess.

What does the TB, MB, OB, & GB have to say on this issue?

I'm going to bet the IQ score of the TB & GB is greater than the OB & MB.

Is he an engineer, an accountant, a commercial rep, an operator, HSE....I mean a lot of people in this industry say they are in oil and gas and don't have a fricking clue about how operations actually work.
