go with a DJ
bands are overrated, overpriced and limited in what they can play.

And this is why I love the OT. Would never have heard of this band without it. Just emailed them about pricing and availability. I like what I heard on their website and the few videos on Youtube.
Bobby (the guy you'll be hearing from via email) is super easy to work with too. I did almost all of my correspondence with the band via email.
Go listen to them live. The YouTube videos of them are all pretty shitty quality cell phone vids. Shows some of they personality and dancing, but does not come close to doing their sound justice.

But for some reason, everyone seems to have more fun when there's a band there I've always enjoyed weddings with a band more than without.

Ryan Foret is the only option. Dude kills it.

Played at our wedding. Had a blast.

I had to come back and mention Compozitionz again. Can't recommend them highly enough. Motown band. Everyone at our wedding was dancing, from 5 years old to 75 years old. Have received tons of compliments and a buddy of mine even booked them after that.

Souled Out
Played at my wedding and were great if you talking about the group from Houma
Id also reccomend Soul Suvivors from Houma. They pretty good as well, they are a little more refined than Souled Out.

DJs are for white trash who have weddings at the local Lion's Club or Knights of Columbus

Nothing screams class like some band from Houma. I will put money on my DJ being more accomplished in the industry than any band listed in this thread. He also has a band, but they make original music, not just playing covers.

I have seen After8 and Boogiemen play at Baccus Mardi Gras Balls. The Boogiemen were my favorite by a huge margin, and appealed to young and old. After8 seemed to be just a mid tier bar band, and their singer was pretty weak.

Just booked River City Hit Squad. Thanks, OT.

Meh. Should a gone with Body Count. Who wouldn't want Ice-T hanging out at their wedding?
