Got my current job off indeed or one of them, can't remember. I will say that I got more responses when I started changing my cover letter to reflect certain interests and strengths depending on the job. Good luck.

I don't know how true this is but I wouldn't use any Facebook with my actual name on it to be sure.

I need to update my LinkedIn shite. Seems like it's gotten substantially more traffic in the past couple years.

I worked in recruiting and never read cover letters. How can you read cover letters when you're recruiting 15+ positions and sorting through 100's of resumes? I'd go right for the resume to see what their experience was.

I've been involved I recruiting since 2006 and can honestly say this is totally true. It's too much coming at you to read every cover letter.

this. And start connecting with others in your field. Particularly managers or people in position to hire.

Yeah especially for federal jobs they have a system that flags certain resumes that have the KSAs - and the job postings usually list the KSAs so you can adjust your resume accordingly.

The best (but most disheartening) advice I got from LSU career services is that the majority of jobs are obtained by just knowing someone with connections.

Yes. There are some tricks to use, but indeed gives me a good indication on how strong the market currently is.

Yes. My current one. Had 2 interviews.

I'm happy with my new one coming up. No interview. Sent in resume. They called with offer. I told them ok. Piss test today and start in 3 weeks.

100% true. I was banging a recruiter whom worked for Verizon/Forgot the other name of this Engineering company but they specialized in the breathing apparatus for emphysema folks..

She would tell me stories for days!

Also hope your credit isn't absolutely shite either.

People actually apply through indeed?

I've always just looked up the company and applied through their website. Never trusted going through indeed to apply for one.

As dumb as it seems, you just gotta play buzzword bingo with your resume to get past the electronic resume screening. It's about the only negative thing about online applications.

ive read of people copying and pasting the job description to the bottom of their resume in white font size 1 or something so that the electronic scanners picks up all of the words to assure that it wont toss your resume out

im not sure if it actually works

Yes. Make sure your resume mentions things specifically in the job description. Also as other have mentioned they will try to find you on social media if they're interested in your resume.

The funny thing about this facebook shite is technically, most companies CANNOT look at that.

We had a guy get arrested at my old company for...well, we aren't going to get into that. Immediately after that, everyone in the office was on Google, and knew the guy had SEVERAL prior arrests. Mugshots all over Google.

HR sent someone to discuss the matter with the office, and specifically said they cannot look at google or social media when doing background checks.

With that being said, I would bet some still do look at.

They absolutely can if it's public. Maybe your employer has a company policy saying HR can't look at that but there isn't a law preventing it
