Yeah the shots suck, but as said above it’s a horrible way to go. There’s some videos on YT if interested. And to my knowledge only 2 people have survived since those records have been kept.

The actual preventative vaccine isn’t bad, but I did feel a bit worse after I received a second one a few years later. But yes post-exposure boosters will make you feel terrible. However, NOT becoming rabid is a pretty good benefit.

I'd pick the shots

Oh, I fully intend to. I went down a rabbit hole last night. Saw some videos that were terrifying.

Yes…..one summer i had a job catching bats in the woods so had to be vaccinated. It was an awesome job. Vaccine shots were no big deal.

I had them, a couple years ago woke up with a bat doing laps around our bedroom at 4am. Turns out if you are asleep with a bat in the room they recommend them, cause a bite or scratch could go unnoticed. The IG shot sucked but the rest were just in my arm at like day 7, 15 and 30 something like that. Mortality from rabies is like 99% once you develop symptoms, which can take up to 60 days. Cause you won’t have any until it gets in your nervous system which can take that long depending on bite location. It’s scary as hell.

The shots are better than rabies, by far, unless you prefer near certainty of death...

When I was younger I worked in a vets office and they had all the workers watch a video about rabies. It showed some people dying of rabies in India, I think. It was then that I realized that the main reason we vaccinate our pets against rabies is so that WE don't get rabies.

Congrats on the autism. You would've been better off with rabies, my friend

Yes. Got scratched by a bat that got in my chimney and hid in a Christmas tree before I took it out.

A ton of small shots all over, but obviously better than dying. Did get sick feeling after each round.

I got it when I was 7 years old back in 1966. Back then it was a daily shot in the abdomen for 14 days. The first one was traumatic, and it gradually got "easier" each day. Not anything I'd wish on anyone. Fortunately I didn't turn rabid. Lol.

BTW, I caught a little field mouse and it bit my finger. Needless to say I leave them be these days.

I was bitten by an unvaccinated dog when I was a kid. The police department or someone took possession of the dog. My parents were told that I didn’t need the shot as long as the dog didn’t exhibit signs of rabies for 2 weeks. My dad went by and checked it every day for two weeks. After that, the dog was put down. I thought they didn’t give rabies shots for dog bites as long as the dog can be observed for a two week period. I’ve heard the shots suck.

My granddad got it back in the day when it was a series of shots in the stomach. Supposedly very painful.

Exposure to a rabid cow-took the post-exposure shots and don’t remember it being too bad. Mostly just inconvenient because of return visits for several injections-4, I believe. I had pre-exposure vaccine but they treated me just like they did 2 other guys that were also exposed that had not had previous vaccine.

I haven't had them but all of my kids have. Came back from a week vacation and our oldest (about 7 at the time) comes down about midnight saying there is a bird flying around his room. I go up thinking he's dreaming and sure enough there is a bat. The bat disappears. Get him out close the door and stuff a towel under the door to "trap" the bat in that room. Call doctor and he tells us that even if bit you might not feel it and once you contract rabies its too late for treatment. A few years prior there was a kid from here that got bit in a cave at summer camp and died a month later because he didn't know that he was bit and his parents did now either. Was told if we had the bat the State Health Department could determine if it had rabies. Finally went back in the room after 4 days and found it dead under the comforter at the end of the bed. Brought it to State Health Department and they said it had been dead too long and was dehydrated so they could not determine if it had rabies or not. Recommended for us to get shots. We decided to get all of our kids (they all slept upstairs) the shots because if we didn't and one of our kids died because of it we couldn't live with that. The shots were in their legs not stomach and I think they got 7 the first time and had to go back for 7 more over several weeks. Thing about it was Insurance did not cover the shots and it was a bit over $1,000 per kid. Don't think they were bit but not willing to wait and see because at that point its too late.

If in doubt get the shots.

I have a coworker that lost his son from a bat bite on his arm. Rabies is not something to mess with. Glad you took the vaccine.2

The treatment now, as bad as it is, is much nicer than it was at the time Ozzy bit the head off that bat.

He really, extremely , regretted that decision.
