My sister was a FA for Northwest and Delta (yeah, no pics but she is attractive ;) ). She enjoyed the job but was furloughed and went another career path.
Worst experience she ever had was a flight on a 757 from ATL to South America. The aircraft started hitting some really bad turbulence outside of some thunderstorms. shite was flying all over the place, people crying and then the Boeing decided it wanted to go knife edge. The passengers were holding her down in the aisle while the plane was auditioning for the Blue Angels by trying to barrel roll.
When they finally landed, she saw the two pilots who were both white as ghosts. About two years ago, I actually ran into the very pilot of that flight on another forum board. Small dang world. True story.
I've actually heard a similar story from someone, I think I may have banged your sister. Small dang world indeed.

Unless you live in ATL, probably not

Another story.
I was stationed at Eskan Village, Saudi Arabia back in 2004 (My unit was plucked from the Brigade while they went north and I got stuck in East Bumble). I was going on R&R and had to take a civilian flight from Riyadh to Zurich aboard Swiss Air. Now of course the nasty German FA's hated Americans so I was looked at with scorn.
Switched aircraft in Zurich to American Airlines and was seated in coach with another guy who was obviously military but we were both wearing civilian clothes. He was 20 years older than me but we got to talking and he mentioned that he was a F-16 Wing Commander out of Bahrain. Of course I was like "oh crap" because I had no idea I was sitting next to a Full Bird fighter jock (I was a Captain at the time). He asked me where I was going and I said home and that it would be the first time I had gotten to see my twin sons. They were born six months prior and I had only seen them in video and photos.
He excuses himself and gets up to go to the bathroom and a couple minutes later comes back with a FA. She looks at me and smiles, points her finger at me and says "come with me". Astonished, I get up and look at the COL as he has a big smile on his face too. She leads me up to first class (767-300 first class) and says "sit down honey. What would you like to drink?" I sat there astonished. I asked for a glass of Cab and must of been smiling like a Cheshire Cat.
She hovered over me the entire flight to Dulles and when we finally landed, her First Class crew gave me a bottle of champagne and all hugged me. I had never felt so humbled.
A week later, I wrote a letter to AA about my experience and to praise her for how she had treated me. I don't remember her name, but I'll always remember her face and her kindness.
tl;dr A flight attendant was awesome

My wife used to be a flight attendant -- no pix.
Those folks don't make any money. I'm trying to remember exactly what she told me, but she worked for a major airline for 5 years and I don't think she was making that much more than when she started -- and she flew first class, was a supervisor and hustled to pick up extra flights.
I think its a job to do when you are young and don't mind being broke. She has great stories about when she was a flight attendant -- the guys in Korn gave her a bag of pot because she gave them extra snacks.

Okay, one more story from her that I forgot and that's it.
She was working a domestic flight in First Class and had Jamie Foxx in her section. She and he chatted it up for a good bit and kind of hit it off. Jamie only lived about five minutes away from her and my parents, she learned. He asked for her phone number and of course, she being young and twitterpated, said sure.
He called her on her commute back home and she asked him "why did you call me?" to which he replied "sometimes its really good to be able to talk with normal folk and you were really nice, well, and good looking too". She was of course giddy, but she was dating my now brother-in-law. She mentioned that he just really wanted to talk with people who were grounded.
Always thought it funny how she always talked to a bunch of famous folks and played it off as part of the job. She still does to this day even in another line of work.

I won't bash 'em. They run in packs. Get one out for drinks with friends...

The stewardess on my BTR-IAH flight a couple days ago looked like Aunt B.
You had more than one on that flight?!
All FAs are union now, except for Delta, so some of them have a bad attitude, but that's given when you have thousands of them.
I come into contact with a lot of different airline personnel through my job and FAs first and foremost job is safety.

The ones on Southwest (yes I fly Southwest. Being poor sucks) who treat the entire flight as their own personal open mic night at the Improv can die in a fire. Memo to Southwest flight attendant: you are NOT funny or witty. Shut the hell up, give me my peanuts and pillow, and go sit down.
This really bothers you that much? If anything it's much better than the boring rehearsed pre flight talks

Singapore Airliines has some really good looking ones. Significantly better than all the old maids working United.

Adam Carolla did a bit about how the phrase "Bitchy as a flight attendant" has gone from making no sense to being a great analogy in the last 30 years. They are very county.

It's a shitty job, every POS who Kayak'ed their $167 to get into a Coach seat thinks they're all of a sudden a Vanderbilt. They have to deal with Foriegn Nationals who think all the arcane regulations for air travel do not apply to them, or can't even understand them to start with, and the only other public conveyance they've ever taken was a bus with caged chickens throughout and they smell like it.
Then there's the medical aspect to the job, anyone gets sick, throws up, passes out, has a heart attack, seizure, whatever, they have to deal with it. Babies and old people on planes? Meh.
Plus, some stewardesses are attractive and are female and that has a certain, how do you say it...frickability?

It's the "Lots of BS for not as much $$... just benefits and 'perks'" they deal with... Dallas is a hub for Southwest and American - So there are always a TON of 'em in town. Training center for American is MASSIVE.
When it comes time to cut loose - They cut loose.
I've never had a bad time with a whole bunch of 'em in the same place.
