LinkedIn is a dumpster fire of senior level analysts, consultants, and VPs of companies with 4 people

I get it. It's a banking thing for whatever reason. The closest VP to me has 90 direct reports

Yes they have. Don't focus on titles. Focus on dollars and power. Titles don't mean shite.

Do focus on titties though.

You must work in marketing, insurance, or some pyramid scheme that combines both of those elements such as primerica

I laugh at all the certification initials after the names of insurance and real estate people. Nobody but their coworkers know what any of that shite means.

You should see emails from nurse administrators. The number of letters in the alphabet soup following their signatures oftentimes is greater than the body of the email.

So each VP could run an 11 person team? Doesn't seem excessive at all.

Unless you work for a Super Major, one of the Big Four, or another large corporation with international interests, I'm not impressed with VP or GM or Assistant Executive arse-Wiper titles.

I saw that the greeter at Best Buy has a tittle of "Loss Prevention Manager" on his name tag.

This is happening everywhere:

Stewardess - Flight Attendant
Cashier - Sales Associate
Secretary - Administrative Assistant
Bouncer - Security Officer
Programmer - Software Engineer
Cable Repairman - Field Service Representative
Strippers - Exotic Dancers

Banks are definitely are guilty. But practically everything is tied to it; raises, # of vacation days, bonus plan, etc.

So if you have a decent employee who you want to keep, unless they are content with two weeks of vacation and an annual 1% - 2% raise a year forever, you have promote their job title, even if their job function doesn't change or they just peak out on the pay scale for their job grade.

I'm now a "Director". I direct no one, but whatever, it got me a 10% raise from when I was a VP.

job titles

This started about 20 yrs. Companies basically gave an employee VP title instead of cash & people fell for it.

I don't really know what to say to this except I now think I know what is wrong with this country.
