More than I should, some notables:

Near drowning as a kid. I was probably 6-7 at the YMCA. Playing with other kids and tried to swim too far across the pool, struggled and remember slowly and peacefully drifting towards the bottom of the pool. Lifeguard didn't see me, luckily my mom was watching and snatched me up. No CPR required. The moments of drifting down I can remember vividly.

Hundreds as a teen doing dumb crap, growing up on the water with access to boats at a young age.

A buddy had a 1986 Buick Electra Station Wagon that we used to go out in in high school. We had a game where the driver would crawl out the driver side window, on to the roof rack and re-enter at the back glass of the wagon. Passenger would slide over to drive and everyone would rotate one position. We would see how many times we could rotate thru before our destination. Well, we didn't brief the new kid, so my buddy goes out the window onto the roof, I was standing on the rear bumper, the car is going down a 2 lane road at 40 MPH with no one driving. It didn't take long for the car to depart the prepared surface and head for a tree. Luckily a backseater reached over and grabbed the wheel, avoiding the tree but fishtailing us across the road a few times. We all held on, but we came close to being slung off the car. Yelled at the new kid.

Jan 1, 1992 I hitch-hiked from the Days Inn on Canal St? to Pensacola at 2 AM. Walking from that Days Inn to the Interstate was totally sketchy and I had to act like I was crazy to avoid the scores of folks who looked like they were going to kill me. Then walking down I-10 for a few miles was terrifying. More than one bottle went whizzing by my head from passing cars until I got a ride. Made it to P'Cola at 10 AM.

Motorcycle near miss- slid a bike sideways going about 60 trying to miss a stopped Acura Integra turning into College Park on College street in Auburn. Weaved into on coming traffic to avoid the impact and narrowly missed the on coming traffic. Took me 20 minutes to walk up the stairs of my apartment afterwards, I was weak in the knees and shaking.

I fly un-airworthy planes for a living now, so there might be a few times a year where I need to remove the seat cushion from my arse afterward.

Wall of text. sorry.

ETA- I saw the road passing under me, out of the passenger door as we slide sideways in a Corvette at 115 MPH. Four or five slides and we got pointed straight, still going 80 mph.

I was in an accident on I-10 a few years ago where I rear-ended a stopped vehicle (no alcohol)--a vehicle was in front of me in the WB exit lane at College, then I looked to my right because there were police lights along the side of the road, and as I looked back to the road (literally a split second) the car in front of me changed lanes and I couldn't stop fast enough.

I rear-ended a suburban and got rear-ended by a Carolla. The worst part was hearing the screeching tires of an 18 wheeler behind me though...that's when I thought I was done for. He was in another lane and didn't hit anyone, thank God.

3. I was riding my MC down I-4 and was stuck behind a car with an 18 wheeler on the right and two cars on my left. The car in front of me switched quickly to the hammer lane to avoid a box spring in our lane. I had no choice but to hit it at 70mph.

My bike is around 800 lbs and did not even shake around. I got home and found a piece of the wood from the box spring jammed in my frame. I still have the strip of wood.

As a Motorcyclist I have had my share of butt-pucker moments over my 30 years of riding.

Glad you are able to tell the tale..

I got in the wave pool at Blue Bayou when I was 10 or so. I was prob the only one without a tube. Didn't realize how deep it got and swam to the deep end before going under. I couldn't get up due to the mass of tubes above me and couldn't touch the bottom to push up. I thought it was over. I panicked, then just kind of gave up.

Then an older guy reached down and grabbed me. I swear that dude saved my life.

I-10 right past Lake Charles, pouring down rain. Driving in the left lane, following an Avalanche pulling a trailer with 2 sport bikes strapped down. Jerkoff in front of said Avalanche decides he wants to pull a U-turn on the interstate in the emergency cut-through lane. Avalanche has no choice but to go into the neutral ground to avoid hitting the jerkoff, I follow suit, I shite you not that trailer whipped around completely parallel to the Avalanche that was pulling it. Bikes didn't budge an inch.

I was about 7 staying at uncle's farm in Mississippi. Was watching my older cousin split logs for firewood - he sat me a good distance away so I'd be safe. Unfortunately I was directly in front of him, and the blade flew off the axe handle directly towards me. It seemed to be in slow motion and in the fraction of a second that it reached me I thought it was the end. Fortunately the blade hit my forehead with a glancing blow and all I got was a knot on the forehead. My cousin turned white as a ghost and when he ascertained I was all right said "Let's not tell my mother.

Got stabbed in the neck with an ink pen in a bar on Bourbon a couple months back. Lady was signing her tab and I was buying a beer on the side of her. She looked at me as if she'd seen the devil himself, and asked if I was a terrorist. I laughed and said no. She said, "bullshite." and cocked back and stabbed me through my collar of my shirt. I grabbed her arm at the last second which slowed down the force of the blow but the pen still went through my collar and cut me pretty good. Scary to think that if I hadn't semi-stopped her arm I might've been rolling around on the ground bleeding out with a pen in my neck. She got arrested but it was a big WTF moment as I'm not sure how she could pin a college aged white kid to be a terrorist

Playing on a public basketball court in a park. Couple dindu's come up, "This is our court." We ignore them. 20-30 minutes later, they do a drive by shooting from the street (100+ yards). Luckily, no one was hit. One bad apple something something something.

Probably one where I should have.I got in my car and cranked it outside a gas station.A guy pointed a gun at me through the passenger window and wanted my wallet.

I threw it in drive and kicked it.A shot went off.

It hit the dash.It was a .25 I believe.Never found the bullet.

Could have ended differently.

Two instances come to mind.

1. The run up to Desert Storm. I wasn't that worried about the Iraqi armor. It was their chemical stockpiles that worried me. I was pretty sure I'd be killed in a chemical attack.

2. Riding home from work on my motorcycle one afternoon a couple years ago. Car pulled out right in front of me trying to cross the northbound lanes to go southbound. Thankfully my left hand lane was open so I could serve into the RH lane. Had there been a car in the left hand lane I'd have been screwed. He was so close I didn't even have time to lay it down. Had I tried that, I'd have still slammed into his side doing about 60 mph. My only hope was to swerve left and hope he stopped before he reached that left hand lane. He slammed on his brakes with the front end of his car right at the line between the right and left hand lanes. It was close enough that had I kicked my left foot out, I'd have kicked the front corner of his car. I missed him by inches. I've had my share of close calls but that one was by far the closest.

There are others but I know they'd start a shite storm from the trolls here so I'll leave those untold.

My only thought before I hit it was "with all the crap I have done, this is how it all ends?"
