Is that a one-time amount? Or recurring?

Just called FEMA to check and I've been assigned to an inspector as of today-still haven't heard from the inspector yet though. When I called Sunday I hadn't been assigned to one yet, so I guess thats an improvement.

When you go online, does it show you have been assigned?

Nurse, you and I are in very similar situations. My parents are just emotionally spent and I am trying my best to help them. Are they going to get the money resent quickly to y'all?

Just FYI - my parents met with a FEMA representative today and they were told that you are not allowed to place FEMA trailer on property that was flooded. I'm not sure if this is how it was during Katrina, but it was certainly new information for my parents... my parents were planning on parking the trailer in their front yard while the house is being repaired.

This has always been a rule, however, it was waived for Katrina because there were so few places to put trailers. Besides, I'm hearing there likely won't even be trailers this time around.

They got approved for $842 for rental assistance

Is this a one time payment or for so many months? This seems like just enough to put people in a jam.

All you can do. Not being there physically right now for them is very frustrating for me cause I'm doing all of this by phone with them. I get at least 2-3 phone calls a day from my dad with him crying cause he just doesn't know what to do and I have to talk to him until he calms down. Then I get off the phone and cry myself cause I really don't know the answers he wants and am basically just telling him stuff to make him calm down.

My dad said the rep told him they have to wait for the money to be returned and then it can be resent. So who knows how long that will take.

Are there any negatives associated with accepting FEMA money? Does your house get flagged? Let's say you receive some damage to your home but it's minimal and you can get by without receiving FEMA aid to do the repairs yourself. Would it be beneficial to decline an inspection to protect future resale value?

We should all keep bumping this thread to compare notes as everyone starts to figure out what kind of resources they'll have available to them.

My parents flooded in Denham. Had minimal $40K flood insurance (mandated by bank because of home equity loan). Here’s whats happened so far:

FEMA insurance adjuster visited last Sunday & left a form to sign & fax authorizing a building advance of $5K. Don’t know when they’ll see the rest.

SBA Disaster Loan people called today to tell them they qualify, but said someone will call tomorrow with rates and amounts

FEMA disaster inspector called and will be out tomorrow. Since they have the flood insurance and qualify for SBA, I doubt they’ll see anything from Disaster Assistance.

Something also to note that I have not yet seen in any of these threads; if you receive any letter of denial or information from FEMA that you do not agree with, you, as the homeowner, have the right to appeal whatever determination FEMA has processed.

From talking to FEMA after the March flood in North Louisiana, people are denied and not notified for reasons as small as not initialing a certain pages or not including the correct information.

If you are unhappy with the amount of money that FEMA has given you, make an appeal and include all of your receipts showing the costs that you have incurred thus far. I know this sound trivial but I hope this helps.

My parents still haven't heard from a FEMA inspector yet. Everyday it just makes my dad more anxious. Keep trying to tell him they have soooo many applicants and that they will get to him soon.

Haven't heard anything since Tuesday when I called and told I was assigned to an inspector.

Anyone in 7O817 heard from them?

Yeah FEMA got my parents rental assistance fiasco sorted out quickly. My dad had somehow given me the wrong numbers when given me acct info so I could include it when I applied for them online. My dad was frantic once we realized what happened and all the information corrected online...but fema had already sent the money.

Thankfully....when FEMA tried depositing it, it was automatically rejected and the payment kicked back to FEMA. Looks like the deposit will be reissued tonight to him.

Where my dad is staying at has spotty cell coverage. So he is worrying himself sick that FEMA has tried calling and he's missed the phone call.

Is your Cell # set up as the alternate contact number? Might be worth having that added.
