Last year for me, 16 year old Chihuahua named Big Al. Hated everyone who wasn’t part of the family, would have to go through him to get to any of us.

Waited years for my Son-in-law to drop his guard, first time he turned his back on him, Al nailed him. Hearing him scream like a girl while Al is latched on is still funny.

Only time in my life I bawled like a little kid was when we had to take him on the last ride to the vet.

Now I have a new friend, Luther, as in Lex Luther, evil super genius who just turned 1. Having him helps.

Sorry for your loss.

I'm 63 and have had to do that several times over the years; each time I cry like a damned baby. I hug them and stay with them to the end, it's amazing how calm they are as they fade away. Best, most loyal creatures God ever created.

Very sorry for you. We had to go through it in October. Haven't cried like that in a very long time.

I lost my favorite dog last June. I've had dogs before and hated putting them down. But this one really hurts. I miss her so much.

I had to put down my Baby Girl in 2019. She was fine when she went to the groomer the day before and by 6 PM she couldn't walk. Took her to the emergency vet and they did blood work and told us to bring her back in the morning.

The next day they did some X-rays and noticed a mass on her liver. Vet suggested we put her down because even after surgery to remove the mass she probably wouldn't last 3 months. That was a tough arse day. My wife bawled her eyes out for hours.

Lost another one about 8 months later while visiting family during the holidays. Someone left the door open and he got out. Some piece of shite hit him and just left him on the side of the road. That one hurt. He was barely a year old.

Now we've got 4 dogs. One is 12 and I'm dreading the day we have to make the trip to the vet to put him down. He's a little dude with only one eye and mean as a motherfricker, but we love him.

The other three are 4, 3 and 2 years old. We should have a period of relatively calm once the old boy is gone. Well, at least that's the hope. I've had to shell out thousands of dollars on the 4 and 2 year olds due to snake bites and eating chocolate wrapped in aluminum foil in the last 18 months.

My wife is scheduled to have our first baby in 8 days, which is why we havent got another yet. But man i wish my Bailey girl couldve been around to meet our baby. She was the best and i miss her a ton.

My wife and I got our first dog two years ago a few months before we found out she was pregnant.

Now we have a young daughter and an amazing dog that is approaching his 2nd birthday.

I was watching them play last night and she absolutely loves him and just giggles and laughs while he licks her feet. He is extremely protective of her which we love. I got to thinking how great it’s going to be for her to grow up with him and have a companion.

Then it hit me that she is going to have to go through that horrible process one day when he leaves and how sad she is going to be. I won’t lie I got a little emotional just sitting there thinking about it and then it hit me even harder that, yes she will be upset but I may be an even bigger wreck.

I realized I need to cherish those little moments and now I want to give both of them a big hug. May stop and get him a big bone on the way home.

I put my down 2 weeks ago. She was 21. As long as she would eat I kept her around. 3 days of not eating and it was time. I'm glad I did it but I miss that bitch.

Don’t agree with that philosophy. Pets can’t be replaced like they’re pieces of furniture. Once you replace a pet, it becomes a habit to keep replacing pets to fill a deep void on the inside.

I have one turning 16 next month. Another one that will turn 16 in June. I knew I have it coming. I am sorry for your loss. Hard to do, I know, but celebrate the good times and the joy your buddy gave you.

So sorry man. I know it hurts.

As I shoveled the dirt over Pete (my big yellow Lab) I said, "never again" Just hurt too much. I hate to say it, but I may have to bury two cats unless they outlive me. If they do I have daughter in law who would take them and give them a good home.
