Gyms at the Airport?

Anyone else think this could work in large airports? I'm talking JFK/LAX and those where you have large layovers. I have a 4 hour layover at JFK and would love to get in a quick workout as I always feel like shite while flying.
Is there just no way to generate enough consistent income? I'm sure there's a reason no one has done it.

We had this discussion before on the OT.
Without showers, it would be disgusting.

Stinky sweaty people on a plane...

There was a thread about this weeks ago. People don't want other passengers smelling like arse.

There was one in McCarran in Vegas when I lived there.

No one has done it because who wants to sit next to a sweaty and smelly passenger on their flight out?

unless they close the bars no one is going to the gym

90% of people won't have a layover
Maybe 5% of those 10% work out
Maybe 25% of that 5% would pay to work out.
Congrats on your revenue of $500 per day and your rent alone for the day is $1,000.

Because it's a fricking retarded idea?

Hell, even with showers you are going to get those crossfit badasses trying to fit something into an hour layover who just "won't have time" to shower.

Have to bring workout clothes in your carry-on then showers would be a must.

Long layovers and delays would warrant this. I think it could work.

Ask if you can load some luggage for a couple of hours. Take of your turban before asking

Even a small gym takes up a large amount of sqft, combined with showers and changing area its even larger. I imagine the price per sqft in an large airport is so expensive that the only clientele that could afford to use the service would be flying on a private plane without a layover. Maybe one day a Sky or Admiral club includes a small gym since they already have showers at the larger airports.

The only way it would work for the gym owners would for it be attached to a few national chains. Gold's, 24 hour Fitness, Planet Fitness, YMCA, Lifetime, etc. I know from when I used to be a member at Gold's, you could visit any Gold's if it was outside of something like 50 miles from your gym. I used the one in Montgomery a good bit when I used to travel. You just had to show them your badge and sign in on a visitor form. And there were only so many times per year you could do this. Same with the YMCA here. We had a family membership and could use any of the ones in our area.
But it would take some cooperation between these competitors, and I don't see that happening. Staff needs to be paid, equipment needs to be maintained, utilities, washing towels, and all the other assorted activities of running a gym. When it gets down to who gets revenue and who pays the expenses, this would fall apart. And I'm not going to pay $5-10 to use a gym for an hour or so on a layover when there's a good chance the hotel I'm staying in has a gym I can use for free, and I'm already paying $50 a month for unlimited use of my gym back home.

i don't think people who have a layover will have the motivation to work out...They're already pissed, annoyed, tired, etc...
Maybe a movie theatre?
