Great American Beer Festival

Any OTers make the trip to Denver (if you don't live here already)?
I think I'm going to tonight's session.
If you've never been, definitely a weekend you want to experience at least once, if you like beer.
Hell of a party.

I live in Denver, not going. Its a bit of shite show. Definitely a party though. I just wish
a) it had two weekends
b) it wasn't in the convention center.
If it was I would go every year, i just hate the convention center.
I will definitely hit some of the local events, in fact hit a beer bar last night and had some specialty taps. We are doing two breweries tonight (epic/mutual friends).

Not really into the whole craft beer scene but sounds like a great place to get drunk.

Brewery tap takeovers at bars and brewery parties in hotel ballrooms are awesome. They happen throughout this whole week leading up to GABF.

I used to go every year. I'm not really that fired up about it anymore. It's gotten too big and it's just not as much fun as it used to be. The Friday night and Saturday night sessions are just drunkfests so I avoid them at all costs. The Saturday afternoon session is probably the best and Thursday night isn't bad either.

I hear you. I think all the peripheral stuff is probably where I would be. After the festival is over, Denver will enjoy the residual effects for a few weeks, I would expect. Every taproom is gonna have special stuff that is not available any other time, and every brewery is going to have special release beers on tap.

I went about 7 years in a row-my last session was probably about 6-7 years ago.
That was right about the time craft beer became trendy-as in "let's do it because everyone else is doing it" trendy.
I enjoyed all the off-session gatherings-that's where some of the real rarities came out.
I don't see me ever going back again sad to say because I had a blast.

Is it the same dates every year? I'll be in Denver for a couple weeks early April. Love that place man

I've lived in Denver for a while now, and have not been. I have some friends who are way to into this shite, as in, they've taken Thursday and Friday off to attend every day.
I love craft beer as much as the next guy, but the amount of breweries popping up is just getting out of hand. Everyone's beer generally tastes the same and there isn't a ton of creativity going into it anymore. I'll leave the wacky creations of Milk Chocolate Stout infused with Butternut Squash to the imagination of my 8 year old self of yesteryear.
From what I've heard, it's cramped and a shite show of drunk people. I'd rather buy a few 6 packs of quality stuff and enjoy a weekend at home smoking some meat and watching some football.

They vary somewhat but it's always right around this time of year.

Not going. Like others in this thread, I heard it has transformed into too much of a shite show.

yeah, I like the smaller fests much better. They are cheaper, and you can manage the crowds. Plus you can try a lot higher % of the beer available.
GABF is just a bunch of drunk fricks, acting like drunk fricks. Especially saturday night.
