A time or two a year I get a severe case of gout in my ankle which I broke playing high school baseball. It's so bad the wind from a ceiling fan or the weight of a bedsheet is excruciating.

My old family doctor prescribed Indocin or Indomethacin(?) and I can literally take two of these badboys, drink about a half gallon of water, and lay down, sleep a couple of hours, and get up and forget I ever had the gout.

If I don't go to sleep, it makes me sick as hell at my stomach.

Now, it's bad on the kidneys and you don't need to take it on a regular basis but it will knock the gout out in a hurry.

Drink plenty of water with it.

For prevention, I talk Allipurinol (?) and it pretty much keeps it in check.

It was. It's not common as I have not heard of that spot in anyone else, but it can hit any joint in your body. Your spine is a bunch of joints. That was actually my last flare up. Been good ever since. I even took up drinking beer after i started alipurinol. No flare ups.

I had it. Hurt like hell but it seems to have disappeared the further away from alcohol I got. Big toe, could barely put weight on the right foot

It literally felt like my foot was broke if I didn't walk on my heel only when it was in my toe/foot.

It's dried unsoluble(?) piss crystals. YOur blood is over saturated with uric acid. The crystal have sharp edges and build up in joints. They then poke tendons, ligaments, muscle, just whatever the frick come in contact with them.

New research coming out saying if you can keep the uric acid level below 5 (with allopurinol), it will actually dissolve the crystals that you have.

Or he could quit being an indulgent fat arse and tell his stomach no instead of being a typical obese American using pills to solve a self-inflicted condition.

Wrong. There is a hereditary aspect to gout as well. Brother has it, Cousin has it, grandpa has it. Diet is part of it but not all of it. Just as kidney stones are not self-inflicted for the most part.

A search would have found a recent thread about this.

My advice:
Indomethacin

Colchizine and endomethacin. They work and is the quickest route to stop pain. Both are dr prescribed.
I now have a script for allopurinol.
Have. It had a flare up since. It's a daily med taken as a preventative measure for gout.
Shellfish- shrimp will initiate a flare up for me. Watch what you eat and drink.
