Where do you find an apartment in any decent area for $1k per month anywhere close to town? I didn't look to rent long, but for a 2 bedroom in any area worth staying, you were looking at $1600 for a two bedroom bare minimum. About $1350 for a single, again not top of the line by any means. We were looking for 3 bedrooms and couldn't find a lot under 2k unless you went out to like Katy. And if I'm living out there, I'm just buying a house.
I meant a grand a month, minimum.

There must not be a lot then. I used the Zillow app (which I realize isn't going to have everything) and legitimately couldn't find much. I have a newborn, a full size lab, and am used to having my own house, so i wasn't looking for an 1100 sq ft apt. But i still don't see many apartments over 1 bedroom for the price you're paying.

I swear I saw you saying you make like 30k now in a recent thread. Your salary is getting doubled? Are you just graduating or something?
Not to get too far into things, but with a reorganization it was deemed I was a little more valuable Plus if I do decide I want to do the Houston thing, there is a living expense.
By the way, thanks for everyone for responding to this thread! It should help considerably.

If you're moving to Houston and will be work in sales tax the $1000 living stipend may not be worth it.

Gotcha. You done classes?
Posted on 11/9/14 at 12:43 pm to jimbeam
Nah. Have to drive back 2 days a week for 2 classes. Not excited about that, but it's just for this one semester.

I'm not involved with sales tax anymore, my main taxes will actually be closer if I scoot to Texas.

This is like asking about good sections of Baghdad, Iraq.

Chinhoyang, I remember that accident. If memory serves me correct, she had taken the kids to pick him up from the airport one night. Driver of the truck took a ramp with way too much speed causing his load to shift and topple the truck onto the family's SUV. Sorry for your loss, no matter how long ago.

i remember that accident, also ... remember reading it and thinking how horrible it was for the way it ended and the fact that someone with (probably) less than full credentials was driving a truck ...

For your profile, you can start with a decent place in either Energy Cooridor or Stafford. Both are less expensive than the main suburbs of Katy & Sugarland, and both are safe.
Once you've laid roots and have the want to buy a house, then the Heights, Montrose, Inner Loop area is the best for up and coming singles. If you plan to work downtown, paying the premium for a Washington or Midtown appt will save you alot in parking and commuting.
Kirby, Memorial, Allen Parkway, Riveroaks, Bellaire etc are all for richer folks who buy big homes... not alot of start up space in those areas, unless you look hard.
