Don’t forget a couple cans of the striped spray paint to finish off the job.

Pipefitters/welders are the prima donnas of industrial construction. They know they can be whiny babies because they know that there are very few that can do what they do.

While he's there he might as well get a pipe stretcher if they have any left. They're gonna need one later and he'll impress them with his forward thinking.

He should also get a left-handed crescent wrench because you don’t want to hold up a job trying to find one.

You'll be helping pipefitters.

Eta: i started out as a helper and mostly due to my ability to weaponize autism I worked my way in to an office.

Don't pretend to know things you don't. Don't be afraid to ask questions but try not to have to ask them 4 or 5 times. You'll be alright.

Wait, they are hiring entry level at Turner ? shite, I might have to apply. I've worked at a power plant before and got my Certification for Instrument Tech. I just never used it since I had a job already. I could use something new honestly. F being in management, I want to walk out everyday.

Learn how to bevel the end of a pipe so that a welder’s bead fills in the gap that connects the pipes together. The welders, who are the real prima donnas and work hand-in-hand with the pipefitters, will be fighting each other for your help.

Happy welder which leads to a happy pipefitter, Will make your life there easier and more prosperous.

Some of the good ones can have this attitude... but pipe fitters/ welders get recycled like McDonald's workers

In most cases you can move up just by doing two things.

Show up on time.

Don’t cause problems.

A whole lot of pitching and catching, with a moderate amount of fluffing on a probationary status. You pay your UA dues, Baw? If not, we’ll garnish them from your first check.

I did a lot of this during and after grad school.

You won’t be doing much.
You’ll probably help with setting up pipe where it needs to be. You might “fly it in” via chain and crane. Just watch your fingers.
You might use a grinder and maybe bevel some pipe?? Possibly more of a welder’s helper job.

Roll with the punches, learn to take a joke, laugh at the other guy’s jokes, and you’ll be ok. Learn to bitch about what they bitch about.
Don’t ever talk about your home life.
