Mine too but it doesn't bother me? Most times I don't even hear it. It's like bus brakes...sometimes it's even a comforting sound. what a bunch of whiners.

I agree, the sound of not contracting cholera can be comforting

I'm sure this guy didn't make up his own hours. His employer is the one that sent him out early in the morning... his employer should be the one facing punishment if anyone.

Or giving him the same number of stops, but telling him, "wink-wink, nudge-nudge, just get them picked up" - and then slamming him if he complies with the 7 a.m. start date and not finishing in time to come home.

Y'all know that traffic gets bad in some places after 7.

But, yeah, jail time for doing his job seems a little bit of bull$hit.

I recall a time at LSU, long ago, I was in the outer office of leadership of the Army ROTC program - a petite little thing came down to complain about our singing cadences while running on campus in the wee hours of the morning.

After that, we had to drop to just a whisper to keep time when we were on/near sorority row.

It's a city ordinance, which the hauler was clearly in violation of, so I don't really have a problem with any of this, except:

Riley says 911 lights up when trash haulers come before 7 a.m.

Eh. The driver is the one who violated the ordinance. If he was an accountant who fudge corporate earnings reported to the SEC, he would go to jail. Even if the CFO told him to do it. You don't get to use the "Nazi" defense.

Having said that, I have no problem with the owner doing time either.

“Give him a warning,” attorney Kimberly Bandoh said. “I mean he’s the employee. He’s not the employer. Sentencing him to jail is doing what?”

This was my thought. Very odd.

Either alot of warnings have been given, including fines, or one of the two parties is flat-out lying.

You read this part, didn't you?

quote:

Chief prosecutor Bill Riley said picking up waste too early in the morning has been a recurring problem no matter what approach is taken to limit the issue. He asked the judge to sentence McGill to 30 days in jail.

Riley told WSB-TV he’s exhausted all other options.

“Fines don’t seem to work,” Riley said. “The only thing that seems to stop the activity is actually going to jail.”

But it doesn't say who was given the warnings. Do you really think the garbage men, who make a very modest income, are paying fines and still picking up the trash early bc they want to watch the world burn? Lol come on.

Well it's apparently something the residents of the city wanted, which is why it's a local ordinance. Do you think the garbage company is taking calls at 5am? Who do you call at 5am to bring attention to this?

McGill, who didn’t have an attorney with him when he was sentenced,

This is key. If you don't have representation who understands how the system actually works, you are playing against a stacked deck. It doesn't matter how trivial you think the arrest is, going to court without representation is just asking for this kind of result. A decent attorney probably could have gotten this thrown out before it ever reached sentencing.

Of course, which is why I'm OK with law enforcement action. But call the sheriff's office or Sandy Springs Police Office.

911 is for emergencies. It's not for a bunch of entitled suburbanites (like myself) to call and bitch about their first world problems.

Why do you have to call at 5AM? Wait until the local office is open at 9, then call.

Guy works hard, likes to get to work early, and appears to be a family man.

Stereotypical criminal, and an apparent habitual offender. Put him under the jail, he obviously deserves it.
