Wife is scheduled for next week to have it done. Supposed to be pretty easy and on your feet in a few days. Three small incisions is all it requires.

I had to have mine out as it wasn't emptying of bile properly. I didn't have stones and leading up to the surgery i was sick as hell if I ate anything that wasn't plain toast definitely no protein. Had it out and was sore for a good week. I can eat what i want again but some greasy foods will go right through me. Make sure there is a bathroom nearby every time you eat

For any on the workout crew that have had it out, how soon did you go back to lifting? I've had some trouble with mine, but have been reluctant to get it out because of the layoff. The recommendations on how soon you can go back are all over the map, from a couple of weeks to several months.

it was about 2 weeks before I was in the gym. That part wasn't bad. I didn't just dive right in at full force though.

If you're gonna eat anything greasy/fried in the next 2 years, just eat it in the bathroom.

Had mine removed in 2007. Wasn't that bad. The pain I felt the most was after surgery. The gas that gets trapped inside of you post surgery rises after time & I could remember my shoulders & neck in pain that night. For the first few months, be close by a bathroom because whatever you eat, is coming out quick. I didn't know your gallbladder controls your arse until I got mine removed.

I had mine out several years ago. The surgery in most cases is done laparoscopically these days so it is no longer full abdominal surgery requiring extended hospitalization. I came home the same day as the surgery and had some painful muscle spasms for the next 24 hours but painkillers took care of that easily.

Without the regulating action of the gall bladder, bile flows directly into the small intestine when triggered by eating fatty foods. This can cause some problems with diarrhea immediately after eating. Just stay close to a bathroom when you go out to eat. Oddly that has gotten better over time and I no longer have a problem.

Yes, over time your bile duct from your liver expands and forms a sort of holding tank for the bile to slow its release into the intestines. It's obviously smaller than your gallbladder was but it does help.

Wife had hers done 2 weeks before we got married. It's not a big deal if it's found rather early.

Prepare for some mad poo-poo action.

This!!

Don't stray to far from a bathroom until you figure out what you can and can't eat. Its like explosive diarrhea.

Not true.

Mine was taken out about 4 years ago. Almost no pain and I was back to work real quick.

I've had no bad side effects, but results may vary.

It doesnt matter what i eat.

I have to eat a powder drink mix every day or i am screwed.

Of course that only happens to a small percentage of those who have their gallbladder removed.

I went back to work the next day. I work at a desk and figured I would rather sit around at my desk than at home.

Walk after surgery. Make yourself. That helps the body absorb the air you get into your body cavity during surgery and stops some pain. My doctor told me to walk because I would have discomfort in my shoulders if I didn't help my body absorb the air by walking.

It's been 7 or 8 years and sometimes I still have a situation where I have to go to the bathroom right now. Not often but once or twice a year.

What's the deal with all the gallbladder issues these days? Seems like I never used to hear about people having these issues, but in the last few years it's like everyone is having to get theirs removed.

It was no problem for me. Getting Versed is the tits. But you will have shitting issues for a year or so until your body adjusts.

I had a buddy tell me to carry TP in your wallet because you will probably shite yourself a time or two. Said he shite himself at a bar, about 3 months after he was having a beer with some friends. They ordered some cheese fries and he laid into a few when they came and he said it just hit him. Guys bathroom had a line and he said he ran out the bar with shite coming down his leg.

Unless, youre in intense pain, I advise against it. Everyone that I know that did it had this problem

Oh, and I have to poop 3-4 times a day now

Youll have to permanently change your diet, and trips are a bitch

Several friends had the surgery up to 3 years ago, and their bowel habits are still causing them difficulties.

Never, NEVER, be too far from a bathroom after surgery
