What a joke.

I first saw those signs in 1995, coming from New Iberia through Lafayette. When will this ever happen??

When they secure the ridiculous amount of money it is going to take to bulldoze the entire section of ghetto along the thruway from I-10 to the airport.

So possibly never...

There's actually been a lot of emphasis on getting the I-49 connector done lately. I don't think it's going to happen, but it's been in the news a lot lately.

I was told by a landowner along the I-49 route north of Shreveport that the DOT began holding landowner meetings in the 1980s. It's still incomplete.

It's complete from Ark line into Shreveport. Not connected on both sides of Shreveport though

I still don't understand why they haven't discussed a bypass east of the city. It could start around I-10 and go through the swamp east of the airport and reconnect around Broussard somewhere. Has that even been proposed?

That has to be cheaper than basically doing the same thing in the middle of the city.

When you can get rid of the NIMBYs. We had done some work on the corridor a few years back, and we were just one of many in a long line of design teams hired over the past several decades to look at the corridor and come up with designs.

I haven't been following it closely to be honest. Mainly because I don't even want to make myself believe that there's a chance it will happen.

There have been a few different proposals from what I understand and people are bitching about every one of them.

this is a load of shite. Govt has been using this for forever as to why they WONT do things. I don't deny the existence of NIMBYs- I am one. But the trouble with Louisiana is that they are so corrupt and slow that by the time you get to the "proposed" corridor site, people already live there. Beltway 8 was built through woods and farmland by people with enough vision to see the need before it existed. In this state, they wait till the need exists to decide to fix the problem. By then, its even more complicated and expensive to fix. its a fricking joke. Then NIMBYs get blamed for halting progress. Well screw that. If you wanted to put a loop through my place, you shoulda bought it first. Why is it Texas can plan for the future, but the folks in charge here can't ever seem to do the same?
