From the LASIK thread (are reading glasses req'd later?)

They made me fill out a form which said I was going to need reading glasses.

you got ripped off. I use reading glasses and i didn't even have surgery.

I don't wear reading glasses but I feel like I need regular glasses again. I had it about 8 yrs ago.

LASIK this year and no readying glasses. I'm older than 35

My wife had it in hear early thirties. Had to start wearing reading glasses about 10 years later.

I thought astronauts couldn't have eye surgery.

I had one eye remain slightly nearsighted this helped me avoid reading glasses until my mid 50s. Since the Docs are having people sign papers about needing reading glasses at a later date, it seems that a lot of people did not understand that LASIK only corrects refractive errors caused by incorrect shape of the eye's lens. Needing reading glasses as you age is because the muscles used to change the focal range of your eye get weak, LASIK does nothing to prevent this.

I have no clue. I'm an engineer.

I had mine done about 12 years ago. At the time, the doc said I could go back and have one of the eyes done so I would not need readers. Never went back for that.

Overall a good experience, nice not needing glasses for distance. I just use the cheap readers from dollar tree.

after about 10 years "many" people have bad vision again.

the problem is they cant do it again, you can only do it once in your life and that is it.

often you can go back to glasses if you are lucky but in my case I cant. the only way I can see good again is to wear glasses and contacts at the same time (special made $600 contacts at that) and then I can ONLY see at a fixed distance about 20 ft in front of me for driving.

I am blind as far as being able to read anything, I cant tell if its a man or woman im looking at if they are closer the 15 ft or more the 25 ft away. in short I see worse with glasses and contacts except for a set distance within about 10 feet where I can see 20/20

for the most part I am "less blind" without the glasses and special contacts, by just seeing everything blurry all the time and I use reading glasses for reading. I am legally blind in right eye and the left eye isn't too bad but its not 20 vision, its more like 50 vision with blurry edges and no fine detail.

I would never do it if I could go back, as bad as my vision used to be, and it was pretty thick lenses, I could still see everything 20/20 at any distance and read well with them
