what is a "burkini" ban doing? nothing
it solves nothing

Enclaves and failure to assimilate
I certainly think they should assimilate to a degree, but when we start legislating dress, I have issues
I don't agree with the burkini ban, I think they're stupid. This mayor was put in this position by his country's total refusal to accept reality for a couple of decades. Now, he's just giving radicals something to target.

Many countries have culture with 1000s of years of history and prefer to keep it that way. I wouldn't support it in the USA, but I can fully support someone like France wanting people to assimilate into their culture and not change things.
how the hell does a "burkini" ban having anything to do with assimilating to their culture?

When the USA was created, what country did they look towards for modeling laws and freedoms?

Dumb law but whatever. Nuns go to beaches in similar clothing.

It definitely wasn't the ancien regime, which was in place in both 1776 and 1787. It was more like a small coterie of liberal noble thinkers from Britain and France from that time period. They did not control the government structure by any means in their respective countries.
France has a long, long history of doing things like this.

Are you serious? Which country is most well known in the world for their 'nude beaches'? Burkini's are the exact opposite of that.
Is it possible that the French take their 'beaching' a lot more serious, is that so wrong?
Frankly, burkini's make most around them uncomfortable. It's impossible to deny that if you are not Muslim.

in the long list of things important to assimilation, what you wear at the beach is way down the list

Whats the issue with the Burkini? its just clothing. Are we being forced to wear what the government says now?
This. I don't really support the ban because it's basically a decree from the government on what you can and can't wear.

Nah. Fashion is a pretty important part of culture, especially in France.

If they really want to, so be it

I'd support that as a global UN mandate

Assimilation =/= stripping people of their religious and cultural identity.
Countless millions of Muslims have assimilated into American culture and life while still maintaining their right to freely practice their religion. Maybe France should take notes on what we do.
