Exactly. It's not really all that crazy for a 10 yr old to watch a 6 yr old for a small period of time.
I definitely agree the cops shouldn't have taken the kids. They lied and told the kids they were taking them home and then brought them to the station where CPS was called. They never called the parents either.

But those are some shitty parents. You let your 6 year old run around unsupervised with your 10 year old? That's dumb. Be a better parents and shite like this wouldn't happen.

i was allowed to go out with my siblings when i was 5. we'd ride our bikes to go swim at red's (about a mile away) with my 7 and/or 9 year old sister

I roamed where I wanted when I was a kid as long as I was in by dark. I would never let my kids go like that.

Why not? Did something bad happen to you? I just don't understand this statement. You went all over as a kid but no way you'd let your kids do that. Unless you were kidnapped, molested etc, I don't see why you wouldn't let your kids have a little freedom.

times have changed. It's not the criminals you worry about, it's your government.

I know that in LA it is against the law to leave a child in the car unattended to walk into the store.
I think until they are older than 12.

There are probably rules ab free range children too.
Break the law, deal with the consequences.

Sir.

Pimp Jr is 14 now and raised a "free range" kid. I called him a 70's kid. It drove the other parents crazy. Which pleased the hell out of me.

These parents who baby their children are doing a huge disservice to their kids. It's already manifesting itself in the teenagers of today who are completely clueless.

Maybe it's because the cops will pick them up and bring them to cps.

I'm surprised CPS took them. I've heard stories of children living in actual abusive households, but either it isn't deemed "bad enough" or there is no hard proof, so CPS leaves them.

CPS is an evil useless agency that just needs to go away.

My sister's kids are "free range" which is a stupid freaking term

She leaves them home alone all the time when she runs to the grocery, store etc. They go to the neighborhood park with each other and are even allowed to go by themselves to go get snowballs at the snowball stand a little over a mile away. They are 10 & 12 now, but they've had these freedoms since the oldest was 8. They don't get to roam too much with other friends b/c most of them aren't allowed anywhere without parental supervision. Can you imagine 12 yr old boys who aren't allowed anywhere alone?
Kids these days don't even go to birthday parties by themselves anymore. The parent or both parents go too. It's insane how retarded parents are these days.

And for child endangerment. Those children are in far greater danger in the hands of social workers than they ever were at the park.

I wouldn't let my kids do it these days. I know all the stats saying that doesn't make sense, but I firmly believe that part of the reason the stats are down is that everybody is overprotective now.
Also, back in the day those 2 kids might have been two of a whole bunch of kids at the park alone. Nowadays they stick out like a sore thumb because nobody lets their kids do that anymore.
