You make it sounds like the government pays for road and other services. Umm, the tax payers are the ones paying for those roads and other services as well as the salaries of those government workers allocating our money on those roads and services.

I don't understand why calling the police is some big "gotcha" moment for some of these protesters.

People of all walks of life say they hate the government and what not, yet they use the roads and other services provided all the time. I'm not sure why protesting some of the actions of the police means you can no longer call them in an emergency.

**Now, if this guy said all the police are bad or something along those lines, it would be different.

With all that has been going on and the Black Panthers being known as being somewhat militant and taking a more aggressive approach to the protest, its just the idea that someone from a group that is taking a more aggressive approach to protesting police because they feel the police treat blacks different, was robbed by a black person and had to receive help from police to get his stuff back.

Didn't he say he has a different view of police now? (or something to that nature?). When people say "I hate the government", there are so many different levels of government and they are usually referring to the bureaucracy or the things tax dollars are used for.

When the government uses tax dollars to fund road construction and other services, they are using the people's money to serve the people, which they are suppose to do. When the government, which is elected and funded by the people, does not do what they are suppose to, then people will complain about the government, you are comparing apples to oranges.

Can I invest the money instead of putting it in the system?

Is that even including interest, time value of money, etc?

If I took all the money I put in SS over the years and invested it, I'd do much better than I'll ever get out of SS. I'm giving the money at zero interest to the government, so no.

I'd gladly take every penny back now from the government I've paid in for zero SS when I retire.

Footnotes: The calculations assume that the retiree worked from 22 until retiring at 65. The tax totals listed here are higher than the retirees actually paid. Why? The Urban Institute statisticians adjusted the value of the taxes to reflect inflation — so a dollar paid in Social Security taxes in, say, in 1980 is adjusted upward as if the worker had paid it in current dollars — and a 2 percent interest rate is tacked on top of that to mimic what would have happened to those dollars had they been put in a personal savings account. (Of course, using another percentage would make a difference.) For Medicare, (a) the calculations figure that the recipient paid both her tax and her employer’s contribution (because economists typically think of that as money the employer would otherwise spend on wages instead) and (b) they subtract the cost of Medicare premiums before totaling up the benefits

That's a pretty low ROI for a retirement account, don't you agree?

I'd just as soon abolish it, but given that's there a huuuuuge % of people in this country who don't plan, I'd be paying for them anyway.

Congrats on being able to get a disability check, because of your mental handicap. Not because you got hurt on the job.

And I'm not for social security FYI. Why should my money go into a pot rather than my retirement. Social Security is socialist.

Exactly. It's funny how ignorant some are. Those are the three benefits republicans pay substantially more than they can ever reclaim.
