These guys (CIA Operatives in Afghanistan)get into some really dicey situations. When any team member feels they don't have their back covered by their teammates, the need to get the hell out of where they are.
When you doubt your teammates, you will not cover for them either. At that point, the team will fail and they will fail at the worst possible point.
He was smart to leave, regardless of the reason. He may have saved his life, and he may have saved the life of a teammate he needed to cover in a bad situation, when a half second hesitation of shooting or not might cost the team several members and a loss of the mission.
