Looking to purchase a wooded lot to eventually build a home on and I'm wondering if there are companies in the Baton Rouge area that would purchase the cut trees for firewood. I figure that would help cut down on the total cost of clearing the land? It's a total of about 1 acre that would be cleared.

I've never done this before so if this is a stupid idea, forgive me. I'm coming to the great OT for your thoughts. What are some ways I can cut down on the site prep cost?

ETA: I know it sounds like a stupid idea - I saw some people talking about doing this on other sites and wanted to know if this is actually a thing or not and if so, who in the BR area could I contact.

What?

I doubt there's a company that will pay YOU to haul off YOUR debris.

That's not how this works.

Why clear the lot in the first place?

A nice wooded lot with a new home is much nicer than a cleared lot, IMO.

Maybe you can ask Halliburton to look for oil in your garage shelf too.

Not only will they not buy them, but you'll have to pay someone to haul the shite away (or burn it).

I don't know the names, but yes, there are companies that will not only take it, they'll come cut it down IF it is a desirable type of tree/wood

Also, ask the guys who sell firewood, they'll cut/take them as well.

Even if you did manage to find someone to cut and haul away trees for firewood or whatever, you'll still have to pay someone to remove the stumps.

This guy doesn't have ANY type of wood that is valuable enough for someone to pay him. Guaranteed.

You may get someone to come take the hardwood off for free, someone with a mill, or maybe somebody in the firewood business looking for something close in to go grab. But no one is paying you for the wood.

Once you cut it all down, post it on Craigslist under free stuff.

People will bring a chainsaw and cut up and haul off some of it.

A decent chainsaw will run you about 400.

I suggest buying a hardhat as well

Your best bet is to call someone who sells firewood. They may pay you a little to cut some nice oaks that they can split and sell. Most tree services are in business to make money and will charge you to cut and remove them.

I'll take all the oaks off your hands for free and make a guarantee not to resell. I'm down to about 6 cords.... I could use some good green wood to replenish the stock!

Ask your mom. She grinds my stump for free on a weekly basis.

Is it hardwood? If it's pine many won't want it because of the smell when burning/ can't be used for smoking.
