Free food, alcohol, and money are worth the once a year hassle.

I used to get pissed drunk at those events when was in the corporate world. Amazed I didn't get fired.
One year the president of the company was leaving early and looked at me " no lude behavior tonight please"

I don't go to anything with work people outside of work. Particularly if alcohol is being served. I have a minimal filter to begin with, and I know it won't take much to start telling people what I think. At Christmas, I just tell ppl I'm Jehovah's Witness. They think I'm weird, but they leave me alone.

The liability and lawyers wanting to pounce have ruined many good parties.

This. We've gone from a $30mil organization with kick arse country club parties, great food, booze, music, jackets and dresses...great times. Now $150mil company, more liability, we have a Christmas lunch, no booze, on a Friday and the office/plant workers get the afternoon off.

I enjoy reading your "I'm rich" responses.

This response is below par man.

Keep up the good work though.

You go to these things BECAUSE you spend more time with those people than your family.

Forming a bond with the people you spend the majority of your life with certainly makes it easier to work with those people.

You sound like a douche. I work for a small business with 8 employees and fricking love it when the boss throws down his credit card and we can all unwind and yell drunkenly at each other.

I hate free drinks and food and socializing with other people as well.

Ours are fun. Open bar, catered food, big place on the lake with a stage where a black dance band plays 4 hours. Giveaways and great year end bonus system as long as the company makes money.

We all work hard and don't get to socialize much at work, so it's a great place to blow off steam.
