For what? From the article:

This is why we have permits in the first place. It's to insure that the business owners are legal to start operating. Ergo, if they permitting process gets biffed they operators are insulated from persecution. Otherwise, why bother having a permitting process in the first place?

It's asinine to say the owners are liable when they went through the correct channels in order to start their operation. If the city/state isn't responsible for their mistakes then what is the point of them even existing?

Good will? Several entities messed up, I think that's pretty apparent. People trust officials to know the law. We can read up on them and determine a course of action we feel is within the law, and we rely on local government to confirm or reject that understanding. Their town did not do that. The people who approved their actions did not have their lives turned upside down due to their incompetence. An apology by the people on whatever council approved this dispensary is absolutely warranted.

As I read it, that's essentially the reason the judge dismissed all of these charges. It's not OK for one branch of govt to give you approval, then once enacted come back and lock you up for doing the thing you got approved for.

So because one branch screwed up, they should get to break the law? Seems legit.

You have it wrong. I'm sure they followed town ordinances and such, and that the town thought it was okay.

The sheriff is a separate political body, over which the town has no control. If the sheriff determined they violated state law, it isn't even remotely the towns fault.

Maybe you can explain the judges reason for tossing the charges then? It seems like he had everything he needed then to seize the entirety of this family's belongings and put them in prison for a long time.

Ok

"We're sorry you broke the law and it took a second entity to figure it out."

Why isn't the tossing of legit charges good enough?

The article didn't really explain the Sheriff's involvement in the process, but if his office was involved I agree the charges should have been tossed.

Now, if this is a local elected judge doing what he thinks is right, then little weight should be put on that. pandering is pandering.

Police gone wild. Holding kids at gunpoint. Threatening to shoot a dog. Stealing birthday money. This is absolute insanity.

They took the lawnmower, a kids bike, basically anything they could get their hands on. Civil Forfeiture is a license for cops to steal to bolster their budgets and keep their jobs, raise salaries, etc.

Was there not one cop in the room when they were planning this raid that asked if there was a different way of handling this? Sickening.

I wish nothing but ill on the law enforcement here who knew they weren't protecting anybody or making anything safer.

You cops are getting pretty ridiculous with how you are doubling down on stupidity in the name of defending and protecting your abuse of power.

If you believe the cops were simply trying to uphold the law, then why didn't the cops simply chime in and say "hey, don't open that medical marijuana dispensary because it's illegal" ? The owners even invited them over to make sure everything is on the up and up which would have also been a good opportunity to tell them no, its not on the up and up and to shut it down.

Do you believe they were trying to protect the community from something? If so, why not just tell the owners, who were obviously trying to be legit, to shut it down? Problem solved. Nope, instead these safety loving officers escalated the situation with a family and children and increased the risk of tragedy.

Do you believe they were serving the citizens? If so, what was the point of stealing the kids bike and other shite like that that obviously had nothing to do with the medical marijuana dispensary? Its so obvious that cops are drunk with power and self-righteousness now.

I mean, how sick are you frickers going to get before you push the nation towards major law enforcement reform?

Not all cops are bad. You should trust them because the odds of this happening to you are too low to justify painting all police with a broad brush of distrust.

In Georgia, police used a helicopter to fly over rural areas to spot marijuana grow farms. They detected something and called swat in to raid an old man's farm. They found out he was growing okra!

Seriously, what's the deal with some of these cops/police departments?
A lot of them are just thugs hiding behind a badge. We need to start executing them thug cops in the center of town so maybe they won't be cops anymore. Where are all the good cops who can use logic and common sense at? Oh yeah, the police dept don't want to hire them if they are too smart.
