Facts I've learned these last few days in Korea..

1. Seoul has mini-Bourbon Streets on every side street off of main roads, with bars stacked one on top of the other; except for the stale beer, puke and urine smell. Drank local beer and soju every day. Koreans love to drink.
2. Federal law prohibits porn; at least thru the hotel wifi. WTF?
3. Seoul has a kick-arse Subway system that only cost $1 (one-way) to ride to anywhere the different rail lines go around the city.
4. A huge bus system as well, but it's more crowded, cost more than the subway and is much slower. Plus, these a-holes have the heater running in 60F on the buses and its standing room only: Hot and smelly.
5. Restaurants are everywhere. Most Koreans go out for lunch, so in a metro size of 25 mil, it means shitloads of different places to eat within a 5 min walk of the hotel.
6. The majority of Korean women are not attractive. Some may have a thing for the different Asian races, but good looking Korean chicks are hard to find.
7. Face time, even thru wifi doesnt work. I guess you need a valid cell signal as well. Viber is the only option here.
8. Pandora doesn't work in Korea.. WTF?
9. Itaewon is a huge marketplace where you can get various shop owners battling it out for your $. There are shopping districts throughout Seoul, but this is the place you can get some pretty good deals.
10. I still suck at using chopsticks, even though I've had to use them at every meal.
11. Pollution from China drifts to South Korea, and leaves a permanent haze of the city.
12. Most Koreans are very friendly and will try to help you if you require it; except for the guy who slashed the U.S. Ambassador's face the other day. frick that guy.
13. According to my Korean counterparts, I have the face of a U.S. movie star and I remind them of Jean Claude Van Damme. They probably think all westerners look alike, though.. Nah. I'm JCVD! In discussing his latest movie, The Expendables 2, I incorrectly said Expendables 3 at first and was quickly corrected. Koreans love US action flicks.
14. Buildings on main roads in Seoul can be skyscrapers, but buildings on the smaller side streets cannot exceed a certain height.
15. Tipping for meals in the restaurants is refused. I don't know if they already include a tip in the overall bill as a service charge, but they won't allow you to tip when you're paying the bill.
16. If you find a good tailor, he will keep your measurements on file for 5 years and you can order more from him when you are back in the US. A small shipping fee of 50K WON or about $45 is required.
17. The majority of the 18-30 generation is oblivious to everything around them. Their heads are down and glued to whatever they are doing on their phones.
18. All of the Korean males had to learn Tae Kwon Do during their military service and most are black belts.
19. A shitload of Koreans smoke. In an era where western cultures are cracking down on smoking nearly everywhere, Koreans are doing the opposite.
20. Korean companies age discriminate. No employee can be older than the highest employee leading the company. Once you get to the age of the CEO/President/whatever, you are forced out. Most are not ready to fully retire until 60-65 so they have to find another job, which is difficult due to the age discrimination .
I'll add more as I go.. 2 more days here.

You on Yongsan?
I did a ton of TDY in Korea over the last three years and really enjoy the country.
Daegu is an awesome city too.

Ah gotcha. Seoul is a lot of fun and doing the KTX from Seoul to Daegu was a cool experience.
I was lucky enough that my buddy was Korean and his Lieutenant was native born. We got to the best places in Seoul and around the country.

Our counterparts have been taking us around town for lunch and we all went to a Korean BBQ joint the 1st night, drank a bunch of beer and soju, and then walked right across the street to drink more.
Here is a Korean pitcher of beer:

You want him to get stabbed by some crazy Russian Hooker? "Mister Mister, you come inside. We drink Vodka"
I haven't seen any girls in wedding dresses and pink neon lights in a LONG time either, Like outside the gate at Hialea.

If you want to use Netflix and/or services like Pandora, you need to buy a VPN service and log in from the US.
