I’m not sure if you’ve been reading the news lately regarding Facebook. It appears that Facebook has been harvesting everyone’s data for manipulation by third parties to exploit. It looks like it at least started in 2011 during Obama’s presidential campaign. That’s the earliest I’ve seen it being reported as in use.

It’s been told to me for many years from skeptical people that Facebook and other social media platforms are nothing more than intelligence gathering operations for the government and people trying to exert control over the masses. I think they could have been genuine in the beginning but have since been co-opted by the government.

Assuming this is true, would you delete your Facebook account or other social media accounts? Do this change how you post on those apps/platforms?

Additionally, knowing the government and other malicious actors can intrude your phone/tablet/computer/tv that has a camera and microphone installed, do you feel comfortable knowing that you’ll never know if someone is watching you through your electronic devices?

Also, all your searches on google and yahoo and the like are cached and catalogued and sold to third parties and provided to the government. If you are not comfortable with this, you should use DuckDuckGo.

Does anyone have any other reasonable solutions to avoid living in this constant surveillance state?

You dont have to have a facebook account. I dont see anything wrong with the governemnt reading what you post on what amounts to a public website. Dont broadcast your life details if you dont want uncle sam to write them down.

Obviously these first few posts from you and the above enjoy being mindless sheep who can be easily persuaded. The first thing for people to do when confronted with conflicting facts from their own realities is to discount it as false and deny it’s ability to be based in any truth.

Like I said, read the news. This isn’t some wild theory I’ve conjured. Go read about Facebook. Go read about PRISM.

It’s not tin foil it’s called data mining and it happens. Like others said it’s a public forum don’t put it out there if you don’t want it known. I do have an issue with them accessing your friends list and using it to politically profile them.

Interesting... our President does just that. Started this whole fake news trend and now more than ever, has a lot of things to say about Facebook. With incredible timing I might add.

Thanks, for the not making me bleat a day more.

I had a client years ago that had a pretty impressive data mining and analytics tool that searched social media for key words based on their client's preferences so that those companies could monitor postings about themselves, target advertise, and all kinds of other uses. The uses described by my client seemed pretty harmless and useful, but I knew that kind of technology could easily be used for just about any kind of monitoring and analysis they wanted.

If you are going to use it, know that Facebook (and others) is collecting and using you and your kids data. They are also trying to get you and your kids addicted to using it.

Just one news item regarding what I’m tryinh to discuss here. It explains what happened some what. Notice the guy that leaked this data was a government/military guy.

Facebook is not a public forum. If I chose to only be friends with my family on Facebook and I limited my privacy to just them, there is no reason for any government actors to have access to my account or posts.

And so what if it is? Facebooje has been used to catch criminals, foil terrorists plots, and teach me how dumb the general public can act.

I would rather the big bad scary goverent know what golden girl i most resemble if they find the dumbass gansta posting pics of his money after he robs a liquor store.

That being said, my last facebook post was in 2011. I just dont enjoy it.

I think he’s referring to the 2012 Obama campaign that was given access to tens of millions of people’s private profiles. The “loop hole” was closed before the RNC got the same sort of information. The DNC still has all this data for politically targeting individuals and groups with specialized adds. The news broke yesterday and people are pissed. #DeleteFacebook is trending on twitter.
