What is a plasma shield?
ETA: From Googling it, looks kind of effective military wise but who knows what sketchy uses will be used.

You've never heard someone jokingly say, "both simultaneously and at the same time"?

F-14s were air superiority fighters designed to protect the carrier fleet from air attacks. After the Cold War, that role had been diminished with the introduction of newer and longer range air defense systems.
There were attempts made to turn the F-14 into a fighter bomber but it was much preferred to use a new air frame since the 14 was already very hard to maintain and its engines were very difficult to work with. Then comes the USAF reject, the F-17. The Navy strapped a tail hook on it and turned it into the multi role fighter that could replace older air frames and that's how the F/A-18 was born.
Since then, they've upgraded its design and created the Super Hornet which is superior to the F-14 in every way shape and form.

No I just used a bunch of words I've heard on Star Trek shows and put them in the same sentence.

When did you become an expert on military aircraft.
Or was that a copy/paste

I took four years of JROTC in HS and always dreamed of being a navy pilot. My family has a proud military tradition

Yoga is probably outside looking for planes doing drive-by's with pesticides

We might not always be fighting cave people between sand dunes. At some point, we might actually have to face a real air force. Our Air Force learned very quickly in Vietnam that even with air to air missiles that can lock on from 2 miles out, dogfighting will always be a possibility against trained pilots with good jets like the MiG 21. The F4 Phantom was slower, had poor maneuverability, and had no cannon (initially). A dedicated, up-to-date air superiority fighter is a must to control the skies against a non third world enemy. Hence the F-15's development (back then) and the Super Hornet now.

And then the F-22. Which will single-handedly deter most air forces from attempting to fight the USAF for years to come.

Well, I stand corrected. My apologies for ever doubting your military knowledge.

Yeah, dogfighting is still a thing. It's a core competency of any air superiority/air dominance or multi-role fighter (F-15, -16, -18, -22, -35).
I finished up my career at Nellis. Controlling a LFE with F-15s and F-22s clearing out a corridor of 30 hostile aircraft was always boner city. Took a while to sort out messaging and voice comm to get it efficient, but man what a beautiful thing to witness when it all came together.
Only worked with Hornets/Super Hornets while overseas. Navy used different comm while the Air Force used service-specific 3-1 comm, and obviously some different tactics due to different roles, but I was tremendously impressed with the F-18 dudes. When the shite hit the fan, it was easy to transition to plain language to get shite done. Air Force pilots were a bit too slave-ish to proper procedures/comm sometimes.
Only worked with Tomcats right at the beginning of my career. Solid workhorse, but they were long range fleet defense with that fricking telephone pole missile, the AIM-54

Do you have any opinions on foreign airframes? Eurofighters, Sukhois, Migs, etc?
Also the pilots of other nations

I had to buy thousands of dollars in office supplies instead of the much needed computer parts. They did not tell me what code was involved.
