I work close to there and when I left yesterday afternoon they had a couple flares near the cat units ROLLING!! I know flaring is a normal process but these were going hard and pushing a black smoke. They normally burn pretty clean.

About 10 mile away and I heard it.

Exxon doesn't seem to do Christmas week well.

Least it wasn't Christmas eve this time

It's part of Exxon's Christmas celebration. They do it every sixteen years. The last one broke three windows and cracked one of my toilet bowls.

The '89 explosion was 26 years ago. The incident was temperature related. I think it was the 3rd day of high temps below freezing. The timing of the two incidents is coincidental.

Wasn't the Cat Cracker unit. Was before any maintenance or mechanical people started working. Very lucky on the timing.

So what happens to the workers if their unit is demolished?

It's obviously gonna be rebuilt/repaired. A high dollar turnaround with the holidays coming up is about to take place.

I'm glad that I am no longer in that plant. The whole place is a ticking time bomb even with all the safety measures in place.

They get to help rebuild it and start it back up.

Rebuild turnaround after the investigations.

Really depends on what happened as to how long they will be down.

Quit being pussies. Crude refineries aren't very dangerous I'm general and Exxon has a great safety culture.
Much greater chance of getting hurt driving to work than getting hurt from some freak explosion in a refinery.

Very glad everyone is ok.
I guess Wyatt or someone like that will get an unexpected turnaround there pretty soon.
