Had a guy on the LaSalle stop showering for a month and he was a mess cook, things started getting stolen from berthing and dude lost his marbles and attempted suicide. I got lucky since my replacement in disbursing was already there and got the escort duty to Frankfurt for his psych eval. Turned over custody on Friday night and they told me "be back Monday for your flight" it was a great weekend.

We found a girl I worked with on her back on the floor in her office. She was screaming, cussing and her legs and arms flailing. She was our insurance collection person in an office of physicians. She had been dealing with these dipshites for months. Insurance wants your money but they NEVER want to pay and will stall and do everything they can not to. Frick insurance people.

They were tied up to the pier though... so it would have been more like burial at river.

Suicide was pretty commonplace. After a while it's like "hey did you hear so and so shot himself?"
"Oh really? Do you know what's for lunch today?"

The Wyoming incident was around 2001-2002. The CO didn't even flinch. This guy was a striker and somehow my senior chief (MMCS Badassmotherfricker) ended up with him. My senior chief saw his uniform all fricked up and said he went into the wardroom to ask the CO if he should make him put on a new uniform and the CO told him "No. If he's fricked up, leave him fricked up. I want it all on video."

He said when this guy walked in with his uniform all shredded the CO didn't even react to it...

When I was working at a restaurant, the GM (older married man) and a waitress (20 something) were having an affair. They had a fight in the middle of a Saturday night shift. Which ended with her screaming that the GM is cheating on his wife and has a small penis. Then she quit, leaving a full section of customers.

There's a lot of stress... and usually women were involved. A sonar tech on my first boat came back from sea, found out his wife was cheating on him, locked his 2 young kids in a closet, then shot his wife before shooting himself.

I was also the supervisor for my duty section and got a call one duty day to send a driver down the pier to another sub. It was the middle of the night so I ended up going myself instead of waking up someone else.

Turned out that a guy standing watch on another sub walked into the crews mess, pulled his sidearm, and shot himself in the head

brian williams?? is that you?

I watched a higher up gamble away his families life savings at a sales conference in a casino.

While the sub I was stationed on was in shipyard we had 8 suicide attempts in 1.5 years. Had another 20 or so leave the boat for psychological reasons... All while in shipyard

The struggle was real in shipyard

I assure you... I don't need to make shite up. There are obviously some other navy/sub guys posting in here. Ask any of them if the shite I'm posting sounds untrue.

Was the suicide rat high because of the nature of the job or the nature of a lot of kids who go in with mental problems or instability?

I was in drydock when 9/11 went down. After a month of standing sentry from midnight to 6am I was about ready to jump head first into the basin.

I never had to do anything longer than maybe 2 months in port doing overhaul... I think I'd be ready to kill myself after a year and a half too.

A little of both. They do a pretty good job of weeding out the psychopaths before they make it on a long deployment but they don't get them all.

I bet the majority of people coming in are normal... then they break.
