... and think to yourself "I really don't remember picture quality being that bad in 2001?"

Yep. I found a video tape of where we recorded the LSU vs Illinois Sugar Bowl and watched a year or so ago. I was like damn tv sucked back then.

God I look at 80's movies and TV sitcoms that I watched growing up and say what shitty film quality they had back then. Straight denial on my age

Yea but ESPN will show highlights from like 2006 and they aren't in HD... pretty sure ESPN was broadcasting in HD back in 2006.

I remember getting am HD TV in our house when I was 16 (2002). I remember being in awe at how clear it was. Which is funny because it's nothing compared to today. Also, nothing broadcast in HD. Now we just expect it. I have the cheapest cable package which is not HD since I stream most everything. When I want to watch something live, it's crazy to watch it in "standard definition".

Makes me wonder what is next? Hard to think it gets better than what it is now, but 2025 I bet we'll be saying that picture quality in 2015 is awful

It can't get better than what you can currently see, right? In that case, we're damn near there.

There is a thread on the Tech board about an 8k TV though, so who knows.

First HD TV we got was for the Arky game in 2002...game looked like crap b/c CBS cameras weren't up to par at that point. Watching newer DVD's you could see the difference.

Cable and over-the-air HD broadcasts are still 1080i.

It doesn't matter if you get a 1080p, 4k, or even 8k TV.. All of your sports are in 1080i.

Blu-ray of course is a different story
