Essen construction is going to get someone killed.

I have been down Essen many times for lunch. Then all of a sudden there is no turning lane on the entire road. With the construction a driver is too concerned with trying to figure out where the driveway is to notice what was a turning lane for many years is now oncoming traffic. After I did it I noticed 3 other cars do the same. There is no way I'm going to go anywhere near that road now.

Luckily i have no reason in my daily routine to have be on Essen. Haven't been since the construction started. Sounds like a disaster.

At least they'll have a short 30 minute trip across the street to the hospital

That stretch of Staring/Essen to I-10 is terrible. The amount of speedtraps on Staring since they've dropped it to 35 mph is ridiculous

agree with OP
they need to label that shite better
approaching I10 the road kind of curves with no lines painted for the lanes

So you admit that you and others are bad drivers? I noticed right off the bat that there was no center lane.

Staring has always been 35 MPH.......................

Drove down Essen this morning and thought the same thing... Those shifting lanes and no more turning lane are going to be a nightmare

blame the contractors all you want, but let's all keep in mind the state and the city has waited and decided to break this project up into three separate contracts. It will not be finished for 3 years or maybe more.
Absolutely zero planning or coordination.

Not always

Was it?
Even if it was, 35 mph feels right on a small street with only 2 lanes. It does not feel right on a 4 lane boulevard with center turn lanes. Most anyone would expect if the speed was 35 mph before then it would increase to at least 40 after. I thought it was 40 mph before but the argument stands either way.
Maybe they need the speed to be 35 mph because that is the only speed at which people can read the 1 trillion street signs.

It was 40 but apparently people couldnt safely access their mailbox or let their kids play in the yard.

Baton Rouge Department of Public Works’ Chief Traffic Engineer Ingolf Partenheimer said the 40 mph speed limit was a compromise. He said DPW determined the speed limit could have safely been higher, as high as 50, but compromised to 40 in the wake of criticism.
Lowering it any more, he said, could actually cause more of a problem. He said national studies have shown cars going unusually slowly could find themselves rear-ended by other cars traveling as fast as the drivers feel comfortable driving.
“I don’t begrudge him wanting him to make 35,” Partenheimer said of Delgado. “I just don’t believe he’ll attain the goal that he wants, which is a major reduction in accidents.”
Delgado said of the claim of increased risk, “I think that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.”

If not noticing that a lane that used to be there for as long as I can recall just disappeared makes me a bad driver then I must be a bad driver. Although have not been in a wreck in 29 years of having my license and only 2 speeding tickets.
What a driver sees coming from the South is 2 lanes to the left and 2 lanes to the right which is pretty normal. But its easy to forget that Essen was 3 lanes to the left not 2. They took away the turn lane to allow for the 3rd lane while doing construction far away from the driver.

At least there is a hospital nearby.

Exactly. You should always look to see what the current lanes and signage are and not assume. This is especially true in a clearly marked construction zone such as Essen.

Eventually Delgado is going to need help from one of the many people he's mocked and ridiculed.

BR residents love to bitch about progress. Pay attention while driving, especially in a work zone.

this should be beaten into every motorists head- especially those who travel on interstates or the Thruway in Laffy.
