And how smart they are and how they took all these hard classes.

I work with other engineers on a daily basis who are idiots, they lack basic common sense, sure they can handle a few equations etc. but ask stupid questions about common rotating equipment forces, thermodynamics, hydraulics etc. etc.

You aren't anything special, the majority I deal with are glorified project managers who rely on specialists like me for all of their problem solving.Unless you are a real P.E. at a firm designing for projects you really aren't crap.

I'm smarter than you.

I know it.

My degree says so.

I make more money than you.

Does that cover it?

I make probably twice as much as our field engineers. The only engineers we have that make the bank are our requisition engineers and our design engineers.

Everyone thinks whatever they are in is harder and better than everything else. Welcome to life.

Look, I realize experience is key. There is always going to be something that a guy with 20 years more experience than me is just going to know off hand from his experience. But the napoleon complex of people having to deal with "stupid" engineers who "lack common sense" gets played up pretty hard. But what you don't hear is all the dumb shite engineers hear from the other guys that they just blow off, because they don't care. I've heard some completely and totally incorrect things from our field guys and I've just learned not to argue. But the second I'm wrong about something, you get "you're supposed to be an engineer, I didn't even go to school and I know that" thrown in your face.

School complaints may get old here, but to all the guys who say "I basically do what an engineer does, I know everything he works on anyway" have no clue about the background someone goes through in their degree. Knowing a trade is one thing, being an engineer is another. A mechanic can build a car, but I don't want him designing an engine.

Like getting an RFI that states: "hey this orifice plate is specified as 6/8" (was a manufacturer spec, not ours), and we measure it out to 3/4". We need a new one."
