So you're a business owner, and manager, and think that only multi-billion dollar firms give employees some PTO in the first year?
And that in the 2nd and 3rd year, all businesses outside of multi-billion firms force someone to use half their PTO at Christmas.

If I had a person in a position of responsibility ask for a day off due to losing a pet when he had a tight deadline, that would be the end of his career with me. I would know I could not depend on him to do his job in the future if things got 'really' tough. Pretty simple really. There are plenty of people out there who take their work seriously and find ways to get their work done and manage their personal lives on personal time.

And yea, I am with you on this one. The dog does not pay the bills. Yea, it's horrible that his dog died but he is mentally incompetent to come to work tomorrow because of this.
