Cops should think about the safety of the public they supposedly serve. Your shock is warranted.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all who suffered loss and emotional scars due to this accident. Very sad indeed.
I do share some of the sentiments expressed however with the recklessness I have witnessed LEOs partake in. One incident in particular I witnessed was a Bham Officer, responding to a call several blocks away, jumped onto a downtown SIDEWALK...yes a SIDEWALK to get by a red light. This officer didn't bother to use common sense in the slightest. An old man was coming around the corner of the building the officer was riding by. This building had NO visibility at that point. Had this man taken literally one more step, he was a hood ornament. I don't know how he missed getting hit, but he did. I could not believe the recklessness involved to respond to a minor issue down the street (as I found out later).
To those in the know of policy, is this common practice to pull full 24 hour shifts by these officers?
