Just got a notice from several other teachers that they have decided to push the return date for students back until the 6th of September.

I checked the EBR School board facebook and it is posted there as well.

I'm over it personally. I understand both sides of the argument, but at some point they have to pick a plan and stick to it.

From Gary Chambers FB page

quote:

East Baton Rouge Parish schools will NOT report back to school this week. School will start after Labor Day, September 6th. Cleve Dunn Jr. Reached out to myself and the group of brothers we consistently advocate with to set up a meeting with Superintendent Drake. Cleve let Mr. Drake know we would appreciate school being pushed back because families are still struggling to recover. Mr. Drake was informed we were prepared to protest outside the school board office and hold a press conference of need be, but that our desire is to be able to avoid all that by doing what is in the best interest of families and children in our parish. Mr. Drake didn't make any promises, but he listened. Hats off to Mr. Drake and the school board for granting our request.

My HS daughter and her friends are actually sad about this. They miss seeing their friends!

How they gonna make up the lost weeks? Or just eat the loss and move on as regularly scheduled with teachers abandoning the first month of their lesson plans?

I promise you the teachers are in the dark just as much as the parents and students.

I'd imagine teachers will literally just start from scratch and start from day one. I mean EBR Schools were only in for two days before all of this.

When I was in grade school, we didn't start the year until the day after Labor Day. I see nothing wrong with this plan.

In PA and NJ, we always started school the wednesday after labor day and went until the middle of June. Have a feeling that's whats gonna happen here. Seniors were done by the middle end of May, I'm talking about graduation mid June

Yeah, it seems schools start earlier and earlier each year now. They'll just have to go until June rather than mid May

Or shorten Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Break

That's when school should start, after Labor Day. It's not daycare.

They have built in days especially to allot for hurricane season. They may trim some time off certain other holidays or go over a week but schedule shouldn't be too bad. The issue will come if school is closed again for a hurricane.
