EBR School Board

With upcoming school board elections, there has been an inundation of mailer ads, FB ads and text messages. I’m curious the motivation for people to be elected and serve, outside of just being a good person.
Anyone know salary, pension, other reasons for these seats to be so highly contested?

are you not the slightest bit ambitious in your career?

I wish there was a ‘none of the above’ selection - and if that got the most votes, there had to be another election but can’t be the same candidates

This man would automatically lose Kige Ramsey's vote

Someone with some balls and common sense has to win these seats.
The trolls and grifters have held power too long.
Anything resembling a remotely competent public education was flushed down the toilet years ago.

I don't think it's that highly contested. The incumbent pretty much always wins. Connie Bernard (who withdrew) might still win since her name is first on the ballot.

Mike Gaudet sent me a bunch of mailers saying “our schools are doing well thanks to me” so I voted for Gloria Wall cause LOL I know that’s bullshite

None of the people I’m thinking about have their main employment in the education space. Britt was the one I was talking about as well.

You get school board insurance and a small salary. If you can make it 20 years, you do get retirement and the insurance for life like any other school board employee.
Wait until the curriculum and technology people come selling, Kickbacks galore.

Joe is a good buddy of mine. He is no nonsense and legit wants to fix the BS. He does not need the salary or the clout.
If you were to ask me the most solid baw I know, he'd be at the top of the list.

EBRSS enrollment is around 33,000.
Charter schools, ISDs and private schools have cut student enrollment roughly in half. There was about 66,000 students at one time.
Are there 50% fewer teachers, and administrators? Are we still busing kids all over the parish? Has the school budget been reduced? I do not recall school taxes being cut.

What’s up with all these charter schools? There has to be some money laundering going on.

I only know Joe Britt in a professional setting, but the dude is always on time, courteous, and overall pleasant to deal with, but he is procurement for some industrial sites so he will make sure he's getting the best deal.

Parents send their kids to charter schools in order to get them a better education.
The schools compete with each other for students. Some are hard to get in.
Public money follows each student. Instead of it going to a poor public system, it goes to a charter or public school.

Mike Gaudet was against one charter school and they sicked a Dem pac on him running negative ads against him.

They don't have to be employed in education. At this point, I would almost say it's a detriment.
But, secondly, for those with political, "public service" aspirations, school board is the first step in climbing the ladder of power and influence. Get elected to school board, get publicity and name recognition, then run for local jurisdiction legislative body, then up, and up.

I’ve met him in procurement settings and he has always been very professional. Good to know and I’ll be voting for him. Was just curious on the motivation.
