What happens if they notice an expired inspection sticker while checking a vehicle?
Posted on 3/18/14 at 11:56 am to Choirboy
they tried to setup a bait car and it got stolen

Obviously BR has no other issues other than unlocked car doors
Posted on 3/18/14 at 12:01 pm to Hat Tricks
Im assuming by "checking for unlocked doors" they will be looking at the lock to see if its up or down or however that type lock works and not actually pulling on door handle.
I really dont see what the fuss is about other than leaving the pass or fail notes. You leave your vehicle parked in a public setting then anybody can walk up and look through your windows. Why is a police officer doing it any different?

Because cops obviously have never overstepped their bounds, nor is there an endemic problem with them adopting a militarized, "us versus them" attitude.
So you're saying that having an awareness program will suddenly give some rogue deputy the opportunity to burglarize vehicles, whereas without this awareness program the bandit would have no chance to commit these crimes?
Or are you saying that the awareness program will be used by deputies to conduct illegal searches, in spite of then ostensibly being aware of the law pertaining to illegal search and seizure?
Or are you mad that this awareness program may lead to deputies looking in vehicles and seeing contraband in plain view, and thus potentially performing legal police actions against law breakers that may have gone unnoticed without the awareness program?

Inspection sticker checks. Only thing Im comprehending out of this. They have to find a way to make revenue with this practice. No way they are doing this with just the intent to keep people safe. Helping the public does not pay the bills.

would you let a cop check to see if your front door of your home was locked?

They do things like this in the suburbs around Dallas. They don't actually search your car, just check to see if it would be an easy target for thieves. You can stop with all the 4th amendment complaining... if you have unlocked doors or valuables in plain sight, and someone tells you about it they are helping you, not violating your rights. Now if they actually searched through your car, that is a different story entirely.
Like the songs says, "bitch I'm from Louisiana" and the police will search your car for the smallest reason. This isn't Houston, Tx this is Baton Rouge, La.

lol, cops are always always looking for ways to search your property. I am often not sure that we can assume they actually know what constitutes a legal search.
Do you know how much shite gets thrown out of courts because cops have no knowledge of the laws protecting us? All the time. They are not generally knowledgeable of the law at all in my experience.
From the article linked above:
quote:
Cpl. Tommy Stubbs, a police spokesman in Baton Rouge, says the phone wasn't in the car when the driver got out of jail. Stubbs says a tracking feature showed that its name had been changed to "Jake Chustz's iPhone," and the driver recognized the name as that of an officer who had worked at the wreck June 2. He filed a complaint.
Yeah, this guy is who you are referring to, right? Sounds like he is well aware of search and seizure regs.

Thank god I live in the AP, the parish that has the best Sheriff in the State of Louisiana, Jeff Wiley and he runs a professional and competent Sheriff's Office.

So if I shoot one of these people while in the act of breaking into my vehicle. Then what?
You aren't allowed to shoot someone that's breaking into your car anyways. Unless you are inside of the vehicle at the time that they are breaking into it.

How would he do it? Come on my property without a cause? Absolutely not.
Will he walk by house and twist the door knob? He better not
You made a comparison that doesnt fit. A vehicle park on the side of the street that allows the inside to be viewed without every being touched or manipulated is not the same a door of a residence

There is too much room for abuse with this program. Cops just can't help themselves.

This is the most likely.
I don't like the idea of anyone, badge or no, going around pulling on door handles and snooping around.

It's illegal search and seizure if any charges come from this. They don't have probably cause to open doors randomly.

Public enemy #1 in BR is Sid Gautreaux and his idiotic programs like this.
