Either way not a problem I'll ever have. My wife does well but she makes a little over half what I do. She also only works about 35 hrs per week

I did it for a year. I retired at age 50 from a LEO career. Wife still working.

She drive me nuts. I had to do everything, including hauling her mother back and forth to medical appointments.

I said screw it and started a new career five months ago. I'm happy with my decision. I'll get two retirements in a few years.

I could see this, over time.

Instead of not working, I actually become her employee. She could become resentful of the fact I don't work, and she does.

Girl Power is awesome until girls get girl power, man takes the traditionally female role, then it kinda sucks for them.

My wife is very liberal, this would be a great experiment. And if she divorces me, I'll get alimony.

The universe will be in balance.

I could do 150k. Golf, gym, snowboard, boat. That would be my life

I'd be a house husband, i.e. Workout, swim and chill all day with some shite around the house and take care of kids if theyre over 6, but not if they're younger. She'd need to make about 150k and that ain't happening.

Are kids in school all day or are there little ones still at home? My answer would probably vary significantly based on this.

I think I'd do more of the traveling than I do now but add volunteering to it. I think that would give life a lot of meaning.

Keep this in mind though, 100k would go a great deal further if the man were running things at home.

The following statement would rarely be made: "I know we didn't need it, but it was on sale".

If she's making $200k then what the hell is the difference between $200k and 280k, with the law of diminishing returns? Also, it's in a field that is very stable, unlike a high paying corporate job.

you don't know what you're talking about.

My wife spent a lot of time with people that were in the last stage of their life, none every said they wished they had spent more time at work, not spending more time with their family was a common thing they regretted.

I wouldn't be a house husband, but if my wife made $200k I would not be working a 40+ hour a week job. I'd be a fishing guide or something for 25 hours a week. It's not that hard to make $25k if you don't have to and have some resources to start up something. I mean you could run a bobcat and make some money working 20 hours a week 2-3 almost full days. If money didn't matter and I didn't have to take a job, running a tractor a little wouldn't be a terrible gig. Heck you could run some cattle, nothing crazy but to make a little jack and not twiddle your thumbs.

FIsh and hunt a little extra, run some more errands, have lunch with friends more often.

There's a huge difference between retiring and being financially independent to where you can do what you want.

I really think I would still work no matter what. I guess it's pride and a sense of self worth/accomplishment. Especially if I'm changing diapers and chasing a two year old around all day. Would probably just hire a nanny if my wife could make 200k plus.

I think a good angle is your negotiating power goes up in some ways when you don't need the money.

Hey, I want to work 4 days a week or work remotely.

No.

Ok, bye.
