1989. I was watching Hillbilly Jim vs a jobber on All-American Wrestling, and there was a closeup of the action, and I spotted a few punches that weren't the least bit real. I was glad I discovered this on my own so I didn't have to look like a dumbass on the playground.

When I was 18 I waited tables at Steak and Ale in Baton Rouge. Hacksaw Jim Duggin comes in. As he paid his check and was about to leave, I looked at him and said

"Is it real?"

He winked and replied

"It's as real as you want it to be"

One evening around 98-99 when stone cold Steve Austin was the main guy, my neighbor and his step son came over.

Thr guys step son had an intellectual disability and his step dad was pool any freon in one of our vehicles while drinking his daily six pack of beer and cigarettes,

Anywho the stepson mentions in and I emcourage him to keep talking because it's making him happy:

Then his dad says in his smoky mountain Tennessee accent tells him, it ain't real boy.

So they argued about this for over 20 minutes.

It always amuses me of the number of people that argue that it's not real. It's one thing to argue about the creative team, bookers l, etc but the main point of it being fake is stupid

Grew up watching mid-south and first time we went to the Municipal Auditorium to watch it quickly realized it wasn't real. Still enjoyed the action and interviews.

It was a lot easier to suspend disbelief and buy into it back in the day. Kinda like magicians, people knew it wasn't legit, but didn't know all the ins and outs like people do today.

Watching mid south around 10 and noticed all the guys would run back to the opponent after being thrown against the ropes. Also, that they always let the opponent put the move on them, like a figure 4. As if anyone wouldn't be scrambling away like crazy when you knew that was coming.
