Glad it worked out, but TBH, it could have ended up as two casualties. The first thing you learn in any kind of water rescue training is going in yourself is a last resort, and it sounds like they had some other options, ie, rope, life preservers, etc. Still, good on him and the others.
BTW, this Pike guy has a hot wife.

1 guy risked his life to save another. The other people assisted him.

Where'd Pike's pants go? Looks like he has khakis on in the water, and then nothing when being pulled up
And he sorta looks like Steven Seagal in one of those pics

Just curious, what would yall estimate the depth of the water right there along the bridge?

Pants in water will weigh you down and sap your energy fast! He probably realized fast that they had to go or he'd be screwed.
I've been in a similar situation, but it was around Thanksgiving and the water was cold. All my energy was gone within two minutes treading water in jeans.

According to a google search, this Alvin "Balls of Steel" Pike who rescued him is the Executive Vice President at Gulf Coast Marine Inc.
In the article:
Reached later as he returned to his job as an operations manager for the Acme Oyster House restaurant in the French Quarter, Pike, 45, said he was on his way to work,....
