How the hell does someone driving a multiton vehicle at highway speeds decide to do anything other than pay attention?
This time it was just him, but he could just as easily swerved into another car. I hope they take away his license. He's dangerous behind the wheel.

I am so happy to read this story. My wife's uncle drowned in his car after it was hit on the causeway by another driver who did not report it and continued to drive. That bridge has always made her uneasy since that bad situation, and could have been prevented by something like this. I know his situation was different as it was early morning, but its still reassuring that there are people who go above and beyond to help out.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully this will make your wife feel less uneasy about crossing the bridge. It's wonderful to see people stepping up to the plate in times of crisis. Kudos to all of the people who helped.

I tell you, I hate that bridge at night. I like to think I'd help but dark water just ain't for me. It's pretty creepy drive IMO.

I don't mind the drive, but I've been crossing back and forth between the north and south shores for my whole life.
I did call *CP once because I saw a truck out of control going southbound when I was going northbound. He didn't go over the side thank god, but he was bouncing between the railings like a pinball!

Pike peeled off some of his work clothing - dress pants, dress shoes and an Acme Oyster House polo shirt. Pike, 45, works as an operations manager for the French Quarter location of the restaurant.
He jumped off the span.
Pike said he doesn't have any rescue or lifeguard training. He jumped, he joked, "Probably because I don't think a lot before I do things."
"I didn't think," he said. "I just did it."
He said he thinks anyone would react the same way.

For sure. It's like nothing exists outside of that little bubble you're in and it just keeps going.
Kudos to this guy. Glad it didn't end up like some other rescues where you have two casualties. A panicked victim can very easily drown two people. Sounds like this kid had his own life jacket in his truck.
