I've had an acceptable time at Chatham Tap on Mass Ave.

Take a cab, it's a shitty walk (assuming that you're staying on the JW Marriott side of downtown - if you're on the Conseco Fieldhouse side, just walk).

Failing that, you can hang out with the homeless folks in front of the Steak and Shake, or get shot at Circle Centre.
