Not to mention, most younger families that are looking to buy homes uptown, in what's deemed to be a "safer" area are paying upwards of 200 per sq ft, which is unsubstantiated.

So, if you have no evidence of this, why do you report it here?

Some of the powers that be don't give a crap about the violence. The police chief thinks his biggest issue is false burglar alarms going off and Latoya Cantrell at a recent meeting on gentrification thought people calling the cops on trumpet playing was of notable concern.

Excuse me? What evidence are you referring to? Take a look at the unwarranted price for real estate in this area.

How is it unwarranted? People have to pay a premium to live in the nicer areas of any city. Properties that are priced at the market are selling quickly. Those that aren't sit on the market.

How is it unwarranted? It's worth what a buyer is willing to pay for it.

It isn't worth over $200 per sq ft. It wasn't like this 5-7 years ago. There are much nice areas than NOLA (Austin, Tampa/St. Pete, Dallas, Portland, etc..) that are much more affordable than NO, and safer for sure.

By the way Baton Rouge is very similar with gratuitous prices. Paying close to $300,000 for a 1450 sq ft house in Southdowns built over 40 years ago is absurd.

Sure it is. Same thing with a stock. It is worth what the buyer pays for it.

7 years ago about 150K lived in New Orleans. Now just about back to pre-Katrina population. Tourism and the port are VERY strong. The economy is pretty good right now. As you said, the crime problem is the one issue that is the monkey on the back of the city.

The market drives the prices. Do you understand this?

The prices in New Orleans are as much of a supply issue then a demand issue. Of course the cities you listed have nicer areas, but they have room to grow. A developer in New Orleans thinks one house or maybe block at a time and has to contend with expanding civilization into anarchy. A developer in those other areas is building on formally rural areas and is thinking subdivisions.

Is not an old house. You realize that the updated 100+ year old houses Uptown are all built with better materials and craftsmanship than any new construction?

They need to put out some more details. City Park at 2 am it could either be a drug deal gone wrong or something similar (which wouldn't be as alarming), or some couple trying to get it on in the park who were gunned down in cold blood. (Which would be very alarming)

99%. All plaster and cypress in these older houses, with really awesome architectural features.

I've done some Sec 8 renovations in the city, and even those crappy houses are hard to tear apart.
